Sounds great to me, I wouldn't change a thing.

I love the phrase too, making Zeds, it says everything it needs to.

Yep, pop shields are great for close mic work and also when you want to belt one out.

It's the bass line that does it... such a cool rambling slightly eerie melody.. got my foot tapping. Everything else just falls in place. Very cool and a lovely lyric.

Yep. Doesn't need any redoing for me neither (he says, sat on his next one wondering whether to redo the vocal cos it's p1ssing him off!! ;D)

Swirly swirly and that fabulous bass groove.

Hypnotic.

Nice one.

That "g" on the first "go"? Nah, it's fine... But you mean you've been singing all this time to avoid stuff like that? That's amazing... your mic technique is such that you'd regard this "g" as a "grrr!!" moment... but you've still captured nearly perfect diction on every vocal I've heard of yours... wow... if I get that picky, I end up with no consonants on the words I'm singing! And I keep forgetting this, you've never got any handling noise from holding the MBR while you're singing!!! And you do them all one take... wowwwwwww

One take?

No - this happens vanishingly rarely for me.
I remember reading that someone famous said  "if you can't do it in 4 takes, you can't do it. "

If this is true,  then I can't do it.

Hehe "one take"

Many of mine are done in chunks and then stitched together.

I actually have a one-taker I'm getting ready to post. But it's the "one-take-ness" that has slowed me down.
It's the original guide vocal done weeks ago.
The performance is pretty good, one or two things that I don't like but I can live with, some things that I'm scared I can't improve on, so that's why I decided to try to mix without redoing...

That was a NIGHTMARE. The performance on the vocal is fine, but the RECORDING is awful for the polished full-band mix that it's now trying to sit in.
There was no attention to mic technique and positioning in the room - I never expected to use the vocal.
But I'm so fed up with the song now that I decided to go with the guide.
The result has been having to damage the rest of the mix to fit the vocal in!!
The real solution, seeing as the singer (me) is still available, is "sing it again you bar-steward, and try not to f***-it up like this version"
But... sigh, the singer is feeling under-confident, somewhat short of breathe at the moment, hasn't sung for weeks, wants to do some other songs instead...

The mix I'll (probably) post later was ready last weekend. I've sat on it, listening to it intermittently to see if I can live with it.

But there is always a possibility I'll go - NAH, let's at least try singing it, that's the right thing to do, you know it is.

The problem is, I can't sing it in one go, start to finish, I'm too old, I was 25 years younger (and slimmer) when I wrote it... I'll need the "4 takes" technique: sing it 4 times live, score each line on each take on a scale of 1 to 3, construct a single track from the winning lines. And to do that, I'll have to disturb the delicately balanced mix on the BR1600 and... well, in that case, I might as well do the bvox I was originally planning too (because then I'll have a vocal you can sing against), and the percussion as well, and... so another few weeks!!! LOL

NAH - I'm totally in awe of the ORH one-take thing!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
