Just downloaded the free version of Traktion's Waveorm 11for my macbook. is also available for linux and windows. Have not got a clue where to start with it. Has anyone used it yet? Looks like a steep learning curve. I pretty much know my way around garageband but that has it limitations, so thought i would investigate this. Got it installed by my brain hurts trying to figure out how to use it.

The free DAW can be downloaded here https://www.tracktion.com/products/waveform-free

I've never used it myself but I noticed that there are lots of tutorial videos for Waveform. There's also a decent User Guide pdf and a forum.

I don't know anything about Waveform, but as far as I know each DAW has it own learning curve that can be more or less steep.

Probably one of the best (FREE) solution is the old Cakewalk (or Sonar), that now is called "Cakewalk by Bandlab", available here:

https://www.bandlab.com/products/cakewalk

It was considered one of the easiest DAW, so James, you could try it (only for Windows)

Ciao!

I was looking at that, however it's a bit of a palaver to get it to run on the MacBook

The logical upgrade from Garage Band for Mac users would be to get Logic Pro for Mac from Apple.

https://www.apple.com/logic-pro/

It may be $200 but it's very powerful.  Another option would be the $99 Cubase "Elements".

And another cheap option would be "reaper" for Mac, at a mere $60 US or so.

What won't GarageBand do that you want to do? It's actually pretty insanely powerful.
