I spent most of yesterday mixing this.  Thankfully my wife was away checking in on her parents so I had the opportunity.

This song started out about 5 years ago as an instrumental called Absolute Blues which I think I probably posted here. It was full of overdone guitar widdling and was  mostly put down on a Yamaha workstation synth with guitars added and mixed on my old BR1600.  I brought the good bits into my DAW, rerecorded some of it and added a lot of orchestral bits.  Trevor agreed to put a vocal together for it and wow!  What a vocal!  I'm very pleased to post it here.  We think its a kind of Elvis meets Zappa and a mariachi band/James Last thing.

It was quite a mammoth task but great fun.

I still don't know how to put lyrics in one of those box things so here they are:

She was my lover
She was my friend
I can't believe that we're through
And this is the end
I don't know
what to do
If she 'd gone for ever what am I mean't to do
She looked me in the eye and told me goodbye
And I said my heart would bleed until the day I died
But she didn't care
She didn't care at all
She just turned her back and walked straight out through the door

Out through the door

I fell to my knees
I cried like a babe
There was no escape from this inner pain
That woman hurt me ooh
She hurt me bad

That woman hurt me ooh

now I'm awful sad

That woman hurt me oh

She hurt me bad
That woman
She's so bad
She is so bad

Roll up roll up let go get drunk
Roll up roll up lets go get hammered
The days went on and on
Empty and cold drifting into nothingness
The clouds were continually dark
No body wanted me
I was old
and done for

She closed the door
she didn't look back
She was gone
She was gone oh
The mysteries of life just carried on

Roll up roll up roll up let go get drunk
Roll up roll up roll up lets get hammered

Come back
Come back to me
I'll change
I'll do anything
Comeback through the door

Can't you love me
Can't you love me
Just once more
Just once more
just once more
Ooh Can't you love me
Can't you love me
Can't you love me
just once more
Oh darling don't leave through the  door

This is so cool!  I absolutely LOVE it!!  Sounds like you really have lots going on in there.  Especially like the "Let's Get Drunk!" line.
Beautiful.  Great job to all involved.

Nice laid back bluesy number with excellent instrumentation and great vocals. Love that frantic brief change at "let's get drunk"

this fits right in with Reggie...getting drunk and his wife or girl leaving...and It is quite dramatic.  I super love the organ in there...quite a great piece here fellas....good job on the music Paul...of course there is a reason Trevor sings with everyone...he is just that good....and he is a busy guy...

This is quite wonderful on so many levels. Superb composition with wonderful twists and turns, and great dynamics. It's really clever and engaging. The "roll up roll up" sections are really good, very well handled and really inject a strong mood change. The keyboards sound superb and the organ parts in particular are really well played, they really add so much to the song. Production and mixing is also great, everything is crystal clear and there's lots of space so that the power of the different parts isn't lost. And of course wonderful vocals from Trev.

An absolute stunner guys. Loved it!

Do you realise it starts with the "Shine on you crazy diamond" riff, or something very close to it?  ;) Don't know if it was intentional but those 4 notes are so well known that I can't hear anything but that when they crop up.....

Life is not about the number of Breathes you take, it is the amount of times your breathe is taken away
