InstrumentalFest (banner image missing)

Started this a few day before it in hopes this fest would win. Things done in this order, which really affected the production. All Ukes & U-bass were done poolside while the kids played. Drums played in my garage. Sax, Flute & synth were done with my EWI (electronic wind instrument) at the kitchen table mostly. Because I did the Ukes & bass without drums the flow and synch of the parts is real loosey goosey which maade the drums almost sound out of time for a little bit, which I really dig. the parts seem to drag and pull at each other simultaneously...makes me happy. Feels like me. All done on BR80.

1 fingerpicked/rhythm uke (stereo)
1 psychedelic lead Uke (stereo)
1 beefy distorted lead uke (stereo)
1 heavily effected/distorted U-bass(stereo)
1 drums (stereo)-my cocktail kit
1 sax (ewi)
1 flute(ewi)
1 synth(ewi)

Loving the ring of those cymbals throughout the ride...the quirky change into the zappaish sax segment .....out into lead led part... then back into a samba dance style thing ....then stop we're off through the corridors of your mind to find the next exit..... an enjoyable ride

Ok some of this was done poolside and the mood is like sitting poolside with a cold one chilling out  Me I always love loosey goosey gives it that live feel with musicians interacting with each other
Well done

Life is not about the number of Breathes you take, it is the amount of times your breathe is taken away

This is great, Hook. Love that downwards refrain - especially when there's the harmonised uke overlap. And the flanged/phased tone of that lead uke - beautiful. Kind of starts out slightly Japanese to my ears, but moves off to its own genre and territory. Beautifully constructed and performed!

This is quite a journey Hook.....from poolside to the garage to the kitchen table and then into my mind! I like the tugging of the instruments as it creates a bit of tension in spots. The sax and the flute are wonderful as are the effected Ukes. Did I hear you repeat the words "Number Nine" at the outro, lol! I enjoyed this one!

Test, test, one, two, three.....is this mic on?

Pretty amazing to me that all the stringed instruments are ukuleles. They sound great. That EWI is quite an instrument, once you get the fingering down. Don't think I'm ready to commit to that yet. Really terrific arrangement, especially for such a casual, sitting-around-the-house recording. Enjoyed it.
There are only three kinds of drummers. Those who can count, and those who can't.

Cant get my head around the uke,s, just amazing how you have managed to record them , they sound really great in the mix , there is a definite live feel about the composition which comes through superbly , you have played all the instruments including the drums, which is incredible recording skills right there, all credit to you and your music

Brilliant  stuff

As Farrell says this is quite a journey and the musical structure is superlative. Love the sound of those ukes - sitting here it sounds like they're in the same room as me. Great recording/mixing/arranging.

Love the jazzy feel and the use of instruments. It pulled me in early and kept me interested all the way through to the end.
