I have posted two replies to this wonderful song and both have disappeared  >:(

So I am just going to say this time that I think it's fab and I will post a longer reply tomorrow!!

This indeed fab. Such lovely words... and the song somehow has a kind of healing quality to it. It's true the world is totally screwed up and we are all a bit broken. Fantastic, yes a little bit of a strange psychedelic quality to this... almost touches of Syd Barrett Floyd for me. Super stuff.

Greeny, I was listening to some of these songs on my radio on the way into work tonight and your song recording levels are noticeably higher than mine and others I have been listening to... very nice actually... I was wondering if you can enlighten me on what you use to master at these levels?  Are there any threads on here that maybe you've written in the past I could read?  Would like to pick up some pointers from you...and I am sure others here too....thanks...
also how do you get your quotes by your name i see every one has....neat.

Almost everything I do is recorded and mixed on my little MBR with a set of mid-price headphones. There's no great technical secrets - I just use my ears and experience to come up with something close to what I imagined it should sound like. I do make sure I experiment with and pay attention to panning and individual track levels during the mixing, because its weird how things can get lost or stand out too much if they aren't panned or levelled in the right way.

I don't mess with anything else other than a bit of reverb: quite a lot added on vocals, and the removal of most reverb on bass.

I just do what I think sounds as good as I can do for a little digital 4-track at home. Garageband drums have been a revelation though  ;D

Back for a more detailed response. I love this one on several levels - love the harmony vocals right from the off, love the combo of keys and 12 string, and love the chord changes. It's all topped off by great melodic bass, a nice guitar break in the middle (great sound on that) and lovely production. I really love the lyrics on this one as well, so thoughtful and insightful, beautifully performed so that the feeling of the lyrics come across so well.

As someone that reads far too much history, I think you have it spot on. They really weren't good times.
