i'd like to see if i could get an 8 string bass out of my rick-like a Wyman Tisdale kind of sound
i've used the bass sim with a tele with success-but like what was already said-you have to to keep it simple
not a fan of bass sims or acoustic sims either

it is do-able tho

I messed around with the sim for a couple of weeks but could never get a half-way decent sound out of it, I ended going for a used jazz bass at the local store, if I were you I would try to go and pick up some used starter bass you could probobly get your hands on one for around $75 and it will sound alot better than the sim

Agree with others - single coil, neck pickup, mute unused strings. It works fine for simple bass lines when you can just play everything on the E string with a few notes on the A string. The D string is trouble for me (squalks). I bought a starter bass once I was ready to play more complex bass parts, but if I was traveling and didn't have my bass I wouldn't hesitate to go back to being Johnny One-String with the bass sim. I think you can get a decent sound out of it.
