I consider my self extremely fortunate in having so much love in my life. It's the auld hippy in me. A wee experiment with some random one note synths and a USB mic plugged into my macbook. Most of my songs are written on my Jasmine electro acoustic but it's a bugger to record, so i usually go for my tele. This time i tried to stick with Jasmine, consider this one an experiment. An experiment in mic placement and shit.

It is what it is.
And it's love that you feel
And you know that it's real
You don't ever
Want to be alone
Know you know
How love feels
It's the only thing that matters
Cos you get back more than you give
Do you know how I feel
When I'm right by your side
Can you tell from my touch
Feel the electricity
It's not my imagination
Love's power runs through us
It's the only thing that matters
Cos you get back more than you give
Love is the healer
Love is the only way
Love is the answer
The answer to hate
Hate is a chancer
That Only love can break
And it's love that will win
That will win every time
Cos the proofs in the pie
I can see with my own two eyes

Some really nice ideas here Jim. I like the ambient background from the synths and the lyrics are great as always. Nice to see the gentle old hippy for a change  ;), you seem to be truly blessed.

Overall this is nice and immediate and intimate, a really lovely piece of music. The only slight niggle for me was that the vocals can become a bit dominant from time to time. Always the challenge with this type of approach. But don't stop experimenting......

AndyR

Oh yeah, like it.

I quite like that the vocal is dominant on this one. It doesn't always work when the vocal ends up so "up front" but I think it does here.

There is one thing - and this might be what Ferryman means? - I get this on my stuff, the loader the vocal goes, the less "stereo" the track sounds. I often mix mine with the vox too loud at first. A few years ago I posted one that I didn't really like but didn't know what was wrong... (because the vox had been such a struggle, and when I conquered it, I wanted it up loud ;D) - The track didn't sound nearly as good as I was expecting or hoping from the months of effort that went in. A few days after posting I figured out what was wrong (my muse had sent me a "the singing's great now, but it's lost everything the rough demo mix had") ... I remixed it exactly the same but with the vocal down just a smidge or two, and suddenly the whole thing breathed again. And you could still hear all the vox and its performance.

I've listened to this one a few times now... and the intro feels wide and spacious. But yeah, the vocal masks it slightly... The track is at at its most lush and wide in the intro.

That's kind of ok for me on this track though - the in your face vocal, and what's it's saying, is more important to me than the lushness of the sounds... NOW, if you can manage both at once... if you find out how to do it... yeah, I'll be all over that!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

This one was about coming to terms with my new usb mic and trying to work out how to use it. I still prefer to use my microbe for vocals. As I am comfortable with it. Anyway it is what it is.

I like where the vocal sits and sounds - it gives the song a live feel. Like that little flamenco-style chord change in the middle 8 too. A very lovely song and lyric.

Mike_S

Beautiful... guitar sounds great... lovely and warm... perfect for this tune. Enjoyed that a lot.

Peaceful hippy vibe, I love it! Very nice and warm feel here...

Is it a ghost in the machine, but I'm imaging Kenneth's voice on the background? :)
