I knew this guy, this kinda rapper in the Ostia suburbs (Ostia is the quarter of Rome in front of the sea). He was dong his 'street poetry', you know, Pasolini would have loved him - I didn't resist inviting him in my home studio (rumors included) and record a bit of his street life paintings. I very liked him, and remember me how I love our local dialect also .. by the way his friends call him "ERRE" like the letter R, that is a wordplay, cause in romanesco "Er Re" means the king. I had to translate this for you!

Suburbs

Nando, plan to have this car washed in this life?
Let's sit down that gazebo like two shitty emperors
Maeanwhile watching the girls go by
They'll deserve a whistle if they're nude enough
Suburbs are one step away from the center, huh?
There's just a desert in the middle
Even with the car washed we wouldn't mix anyway
We got that kinda smell on us that never goes away
Here - we stay here
Here - always here
At sunday in the city old people stay inside
Here they crowd the squares with faded shorts
blathering forever
At the bar there's Lucia pushing drugs first morning
all tattooed with her daughter also and that angry dog
Today she's drunk raises the pitbull against two girls
whore what lies you spit against my brother-in-law?
careful Nando you looked at her a second too long
she always do loving eyes and then Cyril tears you apart
here - we stay here
here - always here
thank god in this heat the sea brings a little breeze
smell of salt mixed with the junk
it's nice that women have the yard sale
me I get stunned with pasta gricia and wine
here you just can afford mobile phone and tv soccer
I forget about the ring that I promised to my girl
after all it's fair we're all just all the same
there is a single rule uniting beautiful and ugly
here - we stay here
here - always here
Maria talks to Gianna balcony from balcony
The drying clothes shine in the sun like a flag
these boys always not commit they stone themselves with junk
and if you tell them study don't consider you at all
Lucio who dreamed of being successful at x-factor
they only made a fool of him and look like a coatto
he just and only wanted to be mic'd and recorded
ended up speaking announcements at the local supermarket
here - we stay here
here - always here
Nando lets have this car washed whilest we sit down
Under that gazebo we stay like two pascia
Take it easy we got no time left for city center
Instead I'd like to explain to you how I do feel inside
Like the audio cassette that's been around since the 80s
by dint of going round in circles now feels just exhausted
I know grandma and mom was born down here and also aunt
But didn't you just break your balls of this fucking suburb
Here we stay here
Always here
Find ourselves here

Periferia
A nando a fai lava sta machina, intanto se mettemo
Sotto quer gazebo stamo come du pascia
Guardamo le ragazze, che passeno
fischiamo solo si so belle scosciate, te possino
C'amo come na patina addosso che nun se levamo
Qua - stamo qua
Qua - sempre qua
Alla city i vecchi de domenica stannochiusi dentro-qua
stanno in piazza ch'i bermuda stinti a ciancica' in eterno
me scordo de l'anello ch'ho promesso a margherita
in fondo è democratico, come me stanno tutti
c'è n'unica regola che accomuna belli e brutti
qua – stamo qua
qua – sempre qua
qua – stamo qua
qua – sempre qua
A nando a fai lava sta machina, intanto se mettemo
Sotto quel gazebo stamo come du pascia
Invece te vorrei spiegà come me sento dentro
Qua stamo qua
Qua sempre

Wow!

I'm actually surprised this grabs me. But it does... possibly because it's in a language I don't understand?

Who knows? Who cares? ;D

This is mighty cool. Loved it.

(On the second listen, just read the english translation, yeah, if it had been the same thing saying that in English, it probably wouldn't have reached me)

   All that I need
Is just a piece of paper
To say a few lines
Make up my mind
So she can read it later
When I'm gone

That is a lot of words put out in rapid fire! I'm impressed that you were able to keep them in time with the music...well done!  Also great backing tracks!

Test, test, one, two, three.....is this mic on?

Ferryman_1957

Wow, that boy can rap! There's so much content in the lyrics, they are great in English but sound even better in Italian. Really impressive writing and very vivid imagery. And all over a very neat backing tracks as well. Really enjoyed this one!

Veramente splendida, Max. Veramente.

Brilliant backer with piano, bass and some tasty keyboard(?) additions. It's nice to hear non English rap!

Nice entry for the fest! I'm a fan!

I will tell Erre that his little story has been heard outside in the big world  ;) I can hear him not believing it ...

I've long had a penchant for French rap - it sounds better and more classy than American-English rap to my ears. Never heard an Italian rap before, but it gives me the same effect. I really like it. This is very, very cool indeed. The musical part is so beautiful. It reminds me of an English rapper called Loyle Carner who does this kind of thoughtful, more gentle rapping.

Excellent! You should do more of this - it's a great combination.

chapperz66

I'm not normally a huge fan of rap but this is cool.  Laid back and subtle  - not at all aggressive as so much of this genre can often be.  I think this is really cool and, as others have said, the Italian really makes it for me too.  Well done Max!

Yeah that works well, that chilled out vibe is a great backdrop for that rapping. Mellow and cool!
