Some of you might have noticed that I have gone a bit orchestral since buying some new sample libraries.  This is my take on a theme tune for an imaginary seafaring type film.

A close neighbour of mine some years ago was chief engineer on Royal Navy and merchant navy ships and he would often use nautical terms including "Eight Bells" which I believe means the end of a watch.

I mainly used the Spitfire audio BBC symphony orchestra core library but also the Hans Zimmer percussion, orchestral swarm and Albion One libraries.  There are a few mandolin notes but no guitars this time.

It's a bit pretentious but I quite like it.

You really have a great vision for composing Paul. It's true, I would have no idea where to start doing something like this either. It really suits the whole seafaring idea. Fabulous stuff.

Fabulous!!

I have just spent an hour looking round the BBC orchestra stuff. I'ts not that intuitive - I will have to RTFM. It's incredible what you have done with it. I need to get stuck in, there are some lovely samples. the brass and the horns I particularly like and the double basses sound so good.

Love this Paul, I will have to get my skates on...

Outstanding work! Amazing realism in how the samples sound and are performed. Could just imagine watching the orchestra live on stage. I watch tons of movies and this composition perfectly fits your theme!

Wow! This is breathtaking to listen. Wonderful how you can play a whole orchestra! Beautiful and impressive!

Nothing pretentious about this. It sounds like you missed your vocation to write film & TV scores. It's fantastic - full of atmosphere, fun, and shows you have a brilliant ear for arranging.

Ferryman_1957

You say pretentious, I say bloomin' heck, proper music! It sounds great, very well composed and arranged and it certainly doesn't lack a coherent "natural" feeling. Although the Musicians Union might not agree.... ;)

I really enjoyed this. Certainly quite cinematic and would definitely work as a theme piece. Definitely more like this please......
