Sacré géranium is a song by the French-speaking Dutch singer Dick Annegarn, in 1974, which celebrates simple life "in your garden" (we're in the middle of the Hippies period...).
Dick Annegarn had a very personal style of guitar picking in the '70s.

I make an attempt to translate the lyrics in scrolling
Sacré géranium

Sacré géranium,
tu sens bon la terre.
Et toi aussi l'anémone.
Tulipe, je te préfère.
Puis de toute façon,
vous sentez toutes bon.
Vous êtes toutes belles
mes damoiselles.

Ah ce qu'on est bien dans ce jardin,
loin des engins.
Pas besoin de sous pour être bien,
pas besoin de vin pour être soûl.

Les poules et les coqs se content fleurette.
C'est vrai qu'il est seul ce lapin ;
je crois que ça l'embête.
Dis, toi le chien,
je ne te prive de rien.
Remue donc ta queue,
fais-moi tes beaux yeux.

Sacred geranium

That's a hell of a geranium,
you smell like the ground.
And you smell like anemone.
Tulip, I prefer you.
Then anyway,
you all smell good.
You're all beautiful.
my damsels.

Oh, how nice we are in this garden,
away from the machines.
You don't need money to feel good,
You don't need wine to get drunk.

Chickens and roosters are content to float.
It's true that this rabbit is alone;
I think it bothers him.
Say, you dog,
I'm not depriving you of anything.
Wiggle your tail,
give me your pretty eyes.

Oh, how nice we are in this garden,
away from the machines.
You don't need money to feel good,
You don't need wine to get drunk.

Oh, how nice we are in this garden,
away from the machines.
You don't need money to feel good,
You don't need wine to get drunk.

You're the vegetables,
I mean, I guess.
You're not recognizable.
You have to say...
that winter has just gone.
The weather is still variable:
a watering can before nightfall,
a rake around the leeks.

Oh, how nice we are in this garden,
away from the machines.
You don't need money to feel good,
You don't need wine to get drunk.

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Very nice JP, an uplifting song with lyrics that have resonance today. Lovely guitar playing with a very gentle vocal over the top.

Greeny

Beautifully done. I really like this kind of song, and I like you doing a vocal in French. Makes me miss being in France on my holiday though, lol.

Quotewith lyrics that have resonance today.

Yes Nigel,  I have been fortunate enough to be confined to the countryside with a garden and I assure you it has never looked better.
I have chickens, I have a cock, a dog (Jahia) and geraniums ...I am aware of having a privileged confinement compared to city dwellers...

Oops ...and I have a wife, too.

QuoteMakes me miss being in France on my holiday though, lol.

Yes Greeny, welcome in France for next holidays, and may be in Savoie, you're welcome in my house

I enjoyed this very much.  Very nice guitar playing and great tone and recording of the guitar.  I will play it for my kids since they know French.  It is rare for kids in the USA, but they went to a French-American school with French teachers from ages 2 to 8/9, and now have a French teacher online once a week.  The problem is they are so shy they practically refuse to speak, and also see it as "school drudgery".  There is no opportunity here to speak French with other kids, where they might have something fun to chat about.  There are some French families, but their kids quickly learn English and then refuse to speak French to anyone except maybe their parents.  We need to drop our kids in a small village in France for a year so they could get real life practice.
