Read this news yesterday - seems his health had been failing the past few years. Steve always added a certain extra element to their songs (in addition to great bass playing, he seems to have had a cool vocal bit in nearly every hit they had).

RIP, Steve Priest.

Ah the sound of my youth. Sweet were a brilliant band in their own right, much underrated. RIP Steve.

Greeny (No longer active)

A brilliant and hugely underrated band. They were way heavier than most people know / remember. And Steve is iconic. His shots to camera on Top of the Pops are part of my psyche. I've been listening and loving their songs since. Wish I could emulate those harmonies though.

RIP.

When I was growing up, there was always a split between Slade and Sweet, I believe. I was always a Slade fan when I was young, and whilst as I grew, both bands disappeared from view for me, I listened to a lot of Slade's output a few weeks back, and was surprised how good Slade where. Last night, me and Mrs B. sat down and watched a load of Sweet's tunes and were amazed how much they must have influenced many of the bands that we both love. There is definitely hints Sweet in Queen and in Magnum, at least to my ears. They had some great tunes as well. RIP Steve.

What a great band and what a sad piece of news :( If im honest i never really forgave Sweet for ripping of Jean Genie from David Bowie for Blockbuster but thinking now as an adult did they or did he ????

I can hear clearly now how so many other bands were influenced by this bands sound

Very sad news and R.I.P  :'(
