I saw Kari's post before i started work yesterday and loaded it onto my MicroBR. Was on a sleepover shift so away for 24 hours. So in the wee small hours i sang/whispered a lyric/vocal. Got home earlier this evening and imported into MacBook and added some bass and synth. I had better listen to Tim and Mike's version now.

Anyway
It is what it is.

A gentle breeze puts me at ease
The sun shines down on you and I
The insects buzz and the traffic hum
A world away just you and I
The floral scent and fresh cut lawn
The memories of time long past
You play guitar I sing along
A world away just you and I

Respite from this clockwork world
Some brief relief from the daily grind
A world away just you and I
A world away just you and I

The damp log spits in the fire pit
The smoke keeps the midges away
As the sun retires for another day
A world away just you and I

Respite from this clockwork world
Some brief relief from the daily grind
A world away just you and I
A world away just you and I

And so to sleep enjoined as one
Till the dawn chorus comes with the sun

Beautiful work. Gentle and idyllic as a Summer's day, and sits alongside Ella's vocal so nicely.

cuthbert

Very beautiful - it reminds me a bit of Pearls Before Swine in its gentleness.

I like the line

'The clockwork world'

It seems we've stepped outside of that for the moment.

A completely different feel to this, collabs, they take you places you didn't know existed.

Nice one James. Very restful and full of freshness.
We are here on Earth to fart around. Don't let anybody tell you any different

Redler

I recieved a ruff mix (without additions) when I was already on the bed. Had to get earphones from the downstairs. Enjoyed the sensitive touch of lyric and vocal delivery - got a strong psychedelic folk vibe. With bass and synth this took a leap to forward. Thank you so much, James.

Btw, with this and Mike's and Tim's takes, I've got a lots of ear candy by the members on Jemima's Kite ;D .

Another beautiful rendition. This song has really made an impression here so that's a sign of what a fantastic piece it was to begin with.

Great work again

Ooh very nice. Similar but different to the other version. The lyrics here are really well thought out and beautifully crafted, they fit the backer so well. And of course beautifully performed by Jim, the vocal nuances fit perfectly. Another fantastic collaboration.

I forgot to say when I commented on the other version how much I like the coda that lets Ella's haunting vocal shine through. Quite lovely.

Aww yeah, that's fab.

Love the guitar and haunting Ella vox.

And then, the signature ORH "can sing anything about anything over anything and it always fits so snuggly with everything else" - how do you do it??? I'm in awe sometimes. This is one of them.

I said it the other day, didn't I? I certainly thought it, anyway: when it says "it is what it is" I know there's something magic that happened that I'm about to hear  :D

Great version James! Interesting how two different versions are so similar this time. Maybe my haunting vocal was so directive. Very beautiful version. Synths sounds good and our voices fits so well together. :)
