bit late to the party but i've been listening to all the versions, fascinating how it has developed. This is a fantastic addition, the slide brings out an earthy soul feel which is very strong. A combined song using these elements would be a real belter. I'm thinking Ode to Billy Joe...

All the versions here are brilliant.

Tim's version with the additional synths and bass is really lush.

Hillary, your version would sound great over the top of Mikes slide version. I sang it through and it fits nicely.

You could also alternate the vocal with a male voice swapping off the verses, and then its a kind of melancholy lovers duet.
