This CollabFest 2 entry is submitted based on an instrumental jam I wrote with lyrics.

Only now with the incredible vocal work by Mike_S has it actually become a real song!

Hope you enjoy it!

HERE & NOW - (c) Ken J Hill 2020
--------------------------------------
Chorus
--------------------------------------
Don't know where he's going
Don't care where he's been
All he knows is that his path
Is something to defend

He can not see the future
He doesn't trust the past
For here and now is all we have
So better make it last
-----------------------------------------
Verses
-----------------------------------------
How did we ever get here
With everything so blue
Why can't we try to fix it
And strive to make it true

We only have ourselves to blame
For everything that's wrong
Should hang our heads in shame
Instead of acting strong
-----------------------------------------
He knows he shouldn't be here
The clues are all so clear
That time is never friendly
And the end is getting near
----------------------------------------
A father with no family
A teacher with no school
He even lost his dignity
But never broke a rule

They've taken his integrity
Empty to the core
And all the faith he used to have
Is sadly there no more
--------------------------------------
A soldier with no army
Sent off to endless war
He's never lost a battle
But nobody keeps the score

A man without a country
A patriot all the same
An activist without a cause
With no one left to blame

Very nice jam here! Like the words and Mike´s vocals makes it perfect. So nice easy going song with a cool roughness on vocals.

Thank you to Ken (hardlock) for putting this one up for collab. Although I no way consider myself a singer there are certain types of tracks that I can maybe do a job on... this fell into that category. On listening to Kens lovely track I thought I could give it a go.

I liked the lyrics Ken wrote and all in all there was a nice storytelling / Americana vibe about it. So there we go, Ken added some rocking lead lines and I love the outcome.

Thanks (hardlock) Ken!

Came to this one first and I am loving the keys and guitar together with a really great vocal on top. I really like the lyrics and the vocal performance is excellent. For a "jam" this sounds like a really well-formed piece of music. It all fits together really well and is also nicely produced.

Excellent collab guys, great entry for the fest!

Wow, really want to thanks everyone for the good words!  Special thanks of course to Mike_S for the REAL work of making the vocals sound like what I always pictured for the song!

BTW, here's a link to the backing track and instrumental mix over on the collaboration forum:
