Hi, Everyone

Please could you offer your feedback on this track please. This is the first track i have mixed myself and i just wanted to know what everyone thinks of the mix. To be honest this song has fought me from the start and i have looked to others for advice and additions but none have seemed to fit. In the end i thought i have to take the bull by the horns at some point and do this myself so here it is. I will let you give me your views on the mix before i let you know my thoughts to see if they are the same or if we are on the same page. Please don't hold back i wont be offended but i fear if i don't get any real feedback to my mixes i wont know if im heading in the right direction or not.

Thanks in advance Danny

Cool blues song and riff works really fine! To my ear the mix and production sounds clear/clean with good dynamics. Great job, Dan!

Thanks for the feedback Redler and nice of you to say such positive things. I was hoping for more of a response to be honest before i stated what was niggling me about the mix (lol) but ill leave it a couple more days and see if anyone else comments about it. ;)

My comments don't mean your mix is bad, if fact it's pretty good to my ears. The things I would do (which is subjective to each listener) is to use the stereo field more to get a larger sound. Such as move the wah guitar and the main riff guitar away from one another.....one left and one right a little. The snare drum and the vocal are at different levels so either move the vocal level up or the snare down so one doesn't take away from the other. I always try to match the snare and the lead vocal or at least get them close to one another in levels. After saying that, it doesn't mean that I always succeed but that's my target. I also like to hear the bass and kick drum clearly which you've done a good job at doing that here with your eqing. I hope this helps some. By the way, I like your song.

Nice song, nice blues riff and really cute lead guitar.

I'll echo Farrell's comments on the mixing, overall for me the drums are too dominant. Also, if using programmed drums or loops, the lack of variation becomes quite noticeable especially if they are high in the mix. I would make the vocals the centrepiece here and bring them up. I also found the bass getting a bit lost, but I am well known for liking a prominent bass sound. What you could do with the bass is to bring it up when the guitars drop out so that the interplay of bass and drums is more prominent in those parts - it might help the dynamics. If your mixing software has automation, I would use that to bring the bass up a bit during those parts and see what it sounds like and then pull it back down when the guitars come back in.

The song is terrific!  I'll agree with Ferryman on the drums being too dominant and the use of a few more variations on grooves and fills would give this a boost.  The guitar work tasty as is the main guitar groove throughout the song.  It's catchy.  I'd give it an 8 out of 10 easy.

This song is awesome.! There is a nice forward motion here. A fun listen .  Any chance you would send a drumless version, I would enjoy working with you one. In reading the feedback, all seems to be covered. You are for sure heading in the right direction.

If you swim against the tide long enough, it turns and becomes momentum.........

Thanks again everyone for taking the time to comment and give your advice i really do appreciate it. I too thought the drums were too dominant especially the snare but if i turned them down a bit i seemed to lose the power from the song. separating the guitars slightly is a good idea too and i'll try and add some variations to the beat or bring that bass up

Again thanks for your time
