Okies, so I'm working on some other thing and it's taking a while... drums to do and wotnot. But in the middle of it I'm digging how my Martin acoustic is working out. You probs won't even be able to hear it amongst all the banging and crashing, but hey... that's for another day.

Anyways, I've been playing my leetle geetar in the living room a lot. And yesterday afternoon I was playing this, one of my favouritest songs ever. I have a lot of those, but this really is a deep-rooted favourite. Ever since I was little, before I could play, or even thought I could play, or sing, or write, or anything.

I started wondering how and when, and whose version was it that I first heard. So I listened to lots of them. Did you know that this was the first song that Frank Sinatra recorded as a solo artist? Did you know this is the first song Barbara Streisand ever recorded, when she was just 13?

After a while I reached the conclusion - and this isn't very rock and roll for me, an English child of the 60s - that it's probably Vera Lynn's version I loved so much when I was little. Hers made me cry yesterday.

And Mrs R said "you should record it" ...

So, live in the broom-cupboard, a little bit rusty... a song I used to do on my own sometimes in acoustic gigs or, once, even in the middle of a rocking and rolling gig.

Bloody hell. This is beautiful and gut-wrenching all at the same time. Such tenderness. It's amazing.
