a wee rant for the bluesfest and no mention of coronavirus

it is what it is

I got the watching the news blues
With all the fear they are giving me
I got the six o'clock omission blues
With all the shit they ain't telling me
Think I'm gonna blow a fuse
Propaganda so obvious
Hey look there's a squirrel
And a future predicting octopus
They think they can distract us
Stick a dummy in our mouth
But they will never sate our hunger
Our hunger for the truth
And who's that guy on camera
In a room where no one knows
Is this our glorious leader
Trying to make it look like there's a crowd
I got the watching the news blues
I don't even know why I bother
I got the lack of probing question blues
You know that bastards lying
I got the state sponsored account
A party political broadcast
I can't believe that people fall for this
But obviously they do
The audience on question time
Are you for fucking real
Tonight we're live from Paisley
So watch your pees and queues
If there's a buddy in the studio
I'll eat ma fucking shoes
Can we have our first question please
Yes! Marmaduke yes you
He's a former Tory councillor
And speaks wi bools in his mooth
And the panel is about as balanced
As ma jacket on a shoogly peg
And who's that guy on camera
In a room where no one knows
Is this our glorious leader
Trying to make it look like there's a crowd

A biting and absolutely brilliant lyric. The amount of lies, omissions and distractions being fed to everyone at the moment is staggering. And the song rolls along beautifully - venomous yet melodic. It's actually damn catchy. Fantastic. And I concur.

And the sheep follow on.
Watching the news is like a demonstration  of mind  torture.
If they are trying to whip people into a frenzy of paranoia they are doing a great job.
This song sums it up greatly.
Thought provoking and verbally eye opening.

Great song brother I only watch the news for 30 min in the morning and it is a local channel so I get the weather and they pretty much stick to facts.

Life is not about the number of Breathes you take, it is the amount of times your breathe is taken away

Yes the news blues... a lot of people have that now. Some of the questions they ask are embarrassing and they excel in stating the bloody obvious. Great tune.

Interesting.  This is a situation where the whole world seems to be speaking in the same voice (at least the commoners.  Not the leaders).
Here in the USA too.  We hear so much "news" everyday and we don't know who or what to believe.  Scary.  Your song conveys this beautifully.

Hey ORH, see you're still cranking out the hits!  Cool song that I can REALLY relate to.  Just getting back "home" here after many years away.  Glad to see Songcrafters is still rocking!

Those things we take for granted - when we're young and immature - will surely return to haunt us when we're old and insecure

Ferryman_1957

I missed this one but glad I found it now, because it's a gem. Loving the chord sequence, it's both dreamy and infectious and I guess it represents being lulled into a false sense of security while the biting lyrics show what's really going on. And I learned a new word, shoogly. Great use of language to build feeling. Great vocals as always and nice production as well.

Like Kenny says, you are the Scots John Cooper-Clarke, only with added music as well. Very nice work Jim.
