Shelter In Place #1
Ted : NanoPAD
Kyle: Garageband virtual drummer
Recorded on Garageband for MacOS

As some of you know, I live in Madagascar. But I'm currently stuck in the USA, unable to return to Madagascar. I'm sheltering in place in a suburb of Phoenix.

I don't have a guitar with me, which is what I usually use for songwriting. I have a bass (my trusty old Ibanez which stays with a friend and has never been to Madagascar), my Micro BR, my computer and a Korg NanoPAD. (I also have a Telecaster which stays with a different friend, but I don't have that with me.)

Rather than trying to borrow a guitar, or retrieving my Tele, I thought I'd see what I could do with just what I have.  This is the first experiment.

The weird thing is that (according to my limited understanding of musical theory) this shouldn't work. The melodic parts are in C, but the bass and the background pads linger on F# and C# notes throughout. This was a NanoPAD accident.

The other experiment is with the GarageBand Drummer. The drummer increases in complexity as the "song" progresses. I didn't program a single beat; I just turned a slider and a knob to gradually increase how busy the drums were. I'm really impressed.

It's good to do make things on a different way, sometimes. Liked the soundscape, sounds fine via phones.

Fine job!

Well I like your accperiment. And it's often inspiring to be forced into a different / new direction. Lots of mileage to be had in this new set-up.

Flash Harry

Wow - that does work.

Less is obviously more. It's a really interesting groove you have going there, and the timbres are really nice. There;s mileage in this.

Cool groove Ted, very nice. Great sounds and clever use of the limited musical tools at your disposal. More like this would be fun. You should exploit that bass - you can play lead lines on it and maybe use some tools on the computer to process the sound a bit.....

Even if it doesn't "work" it still goes together nicely.  Sometimes "happy" accidents happen in music.
