Quote from: chapperz66 on March 23, 2020, 08:28:45 AMI don't like to show off, but I felt I should share with you the fact that I have received my text from the NHS that I have been identified as being at risk of serious illness re vcovid and should stay indoors.
I feel quite special....????

It's a good feeling isn't it? ;)

It is indeed, Kenneth. The slight surprise is that it actually says stay indoors. Apparently it is safe to open the window! So I can't even go into the garden! More information is on the way in the post, but it really does seem that I  should stay literally indoors and not just avoid contact with people.
Oh well.

So sorry to hear.
Take care of yourself Paul.
Looking forward to some new music from you!

No Paul, it's a wrong message. You can open your windows and go in your garden, unless there's something else outside. You have just to stay away all other people.

An important thing, concerning masks:

according to WHO, for everyday's life, normal surgical masks are OK. If available, they should be used EVERY TIME each one of us goes outside to work, supermarkets, chemists, etc. AND plastic gloves, of course, to throw when returning back home.

If someone has cough, he ABSOLUTELY must NOT use FFP2 and FFP3 masks with valves, since the valve sends air from inside to ouside, so it would be a perfect way to spread the virus. FFP2 and FFP3 should be used only by doctors and nurses caring suspected or confirmed Covid +

Thanks Alfredo.  I think the text I received from the NHS is probably just an initial generic one sent to all at risk people who need shielding. Of course they wouldn't know if I live in a house with a private garden or an apartment with communal outside space.  If the only outside space is shared it would make sense to tell people to default to staying indoors.  I imagine I will get further instructions in the post. Thanks again for clarifying.

thank you Alfredo for helpful tips and competent advice.
The situation in France is probably the same as in Italy with a delay of a fortnight.
We do not know what to think about Chloraquine, medical opinions are divergent as to its immediate use and little control (some side effects, especially cardiac, to be taken into account in the benefit/risk balance).

I have worked for about twenty years in an intensive care unit (for burn victims in Lyon) and I am familiar with the complexity of the care in case of ARDS (pulmonary oedema): mechanical ventilation with positive pressure, high oxygen fraction and often, as a last resort, ventilation in the prone position.
The respiratory care required to pass the ARDS milestone is very heavy and requires very well trained personnel (resuscitation doctors, nurses, care assistants, physiotherapists) and specific equipment that we lack in all countries (some more than others).
the lack of equipment (ventilators) and qualified personnel in the Health Care Services leads to a terrible situation for the carers: choosing the sick people to be treated as a priority according to unethical criteria: the probabilities of survival according to age, associated and aggravating pathologies...

Terrible situation for carers

In France, to date, 5 doctors have been victims of Corona...

As far as I am concerned, I am confined, fortunately in the countryside with the possibility to go out in the garden...but I don't have any more materials to tinker and to garden! ...my only possible occupation...is music, but it's a lot!

Be careful and respect the confinement instructions.

JP,

idrossichlorochine (Plaquenil, Sanofi) YES, 200mg  x 2, if possible since the beginning in older patients, and/or previous pathologies. It could long Qtc at the ecg, though. To be associated with doxicicline 100 mg 2 tablets per day.

ICU units...not good news. It's not the USUAL pneumonia, specialists say. Of course it's possible to survive, but the death rates for those who need ventilation are very high, actually. So the only hope is not get in touch with the beast, and if so, hope to be part of the 80-85% of mild cases.

The good news is that since a couple of days the growth in Lombardy seems not to be exponential...

The high risk here in South comes from the 40000 people who returned home from North in the last weeks. A girl in a little town nearby went to find her granddad in a resthouse: as a result, 1 dead, 69 Covid  + among all the patients and caregivers.

according to today's news, it seems that there were no more deaths in Italy than the previous day (peak)... we have to look at things positively...

In France, bad news the death by corona of the French Cameroonian musician Manu Di Bango, a very handsome man, a lot of empathy and compassion, ...and a very good musician, Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur, Grand Témoin de la Francophonie at the Jeaeux Oluympique and Para Olympique of 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.

This is my tribute to Manu Di Bango

Thanks Alfredo this thread is much needed.
My wife is back at the hospital and unfortunately it is more of the same. Patients all over the hospital on random floors ending up with covid and infecting a nurse or two.
This must be happening everywhere in the US, we are so behind on testing it's almost worthless to try catching up at this point... especially when there still isn't a national quarantine.

Please stay home
Okay to cover.
