Thanks for the kind comments everyone.
I'm relieved to report that my PC has survived being dragged into kicking and screaming into the 2010's. I think I have got all my software reinstalled as well although it was quite a big job.
 Fortunately my road has fibre cable so download speed is quite good.  A couple of late nights and all appears to be ok.
