I'm very moved by the death of Graeme Allwright yesterday...
I did several covers of his songs, some of them on the SC website.
-The Stranger (Leonard Cohen's The Stranger Song)
- Halleluja (Leonard Cohen song)
-Take me home (Johnny Cash's "Take me home" playing)

Graeme Allwright had adapted and translated many of Leonard Cohen's songs.
With Steve Waring (an American singer who lives in France), Roger Mason (another American folk guitar singer, Gary Peterson, Marcel Dadi, Pierre Bensusan, Stephan Grossman ... he introduced us to folk guitar picking in the 70's...

To pay homage to him, I covered the song HALLELUJA, with a new mix and Graeme's French lyrics,
it's played on my Lap steel guitar with a B F# B D# F# B (low open B) tuning used by Ben Harper

Merci Alex,

je me rends compte que je n'avais pas mis la traduction des paroles en français qui sont de Graeme  Allwright

voici la traduction
G Em
It is said that a mysterious chord
 G Em
 What David played pleased God
    C D G D
But you're not interested in music, are you?
 G
 It goes like this
 C D
 A quarte, A quinte,
 Em C
The minor falls, the major rises,
 D B7 Em
 The surprised king composing Hallelujah
 C Em
 Hallelujah, Hallelujah
 C G D G
 Hallelujah, Hallelujah

   G Em
You wanted proof despite your faith.
    G Em
When she bathed on the roof
   C D G D
Her beauty in the moonlight captivated you
 G C D
To a stool she bound you
    Em C
Your throne shattered, your hair cut,
    D B7 Em
And from your lips drew this Hallelujah

 Hallelujah, Hallelujah
 G Em
I have already come to expand
    G Em
And I walked into that room.
 C D G D
Because I lived alone before I met you.
   G C D
On the porch I saw your lantern.
   Em C
Love is not a triumphant march.
 D B7 Em
It's cold and it's bruised Hallelujah
 Hallelujah, Hallelujah
 Hallelujah, Hallelujah

 G Em
Once, you didn't hide from me
 G Em
 What's going on down here,
 C D G D
But now that's no longer the case, is it?
 G C D
Remember, when I came into you
 Em C
 Likewise the sacred dove
 D B7 Em
Every one of our rales was Hallelujah.
 Hallelujah, Hallelujah
 Hallelujah, Hallelujah

 G Em
You say that in vain I took the name
 G Em
But I don't know the name
 C D G D
And what do you really care?
 G C D
In every word a flame shines
 Em C
And what does it matter whether we proclaim
 D B7 Em
The sacred or the bruised Hallelujah
 Hallelujah, Hallelujah
 Hallelujah, Hallelujah

 G Em
To do my best I sought
 G Em
Not being able to feel, I touched
 C D G D
I told you the truth: I did not come here to cheat.
 G C D
 Everything went wrong and yet
 Em C
I come before the God of Song
 D B7 Em
With nothing else on my lips but Hallelujah
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
