In the Court of the Dragon - not much music but a lot of noise

It's been many years since I recorded any music, and I am now slowly getting back into things with a different approach and a lot of new gear. I'm not sure if this is a good start or not, but as Jim always says, it is what it is.

This is another track that may be intended for my long lost epic album based on the gothic horror novel "The King in Yellow" by Robert W. Chambers. It's inspired by the story "In the Court of the Dragon", in which a man seated in church hears discordant organ music and is pursued by the creature playing the organ.

I started with some drum loops that were free with my DAW that had an interesting feel. I then created some noises on my Bass VI which were discordant and possibly other-worldy. These noises kind of came together in a track and I added some spoken vocals (taken from the story).

The recording approach was to record all the individual tracks on the BR800. These were then imported into a DAW for mixing, and mastering was done in Izotope Ozone 9. So I've moved away from millions of bounces on the BR.

I'm not sure what this really is. There's not much music, it's only a handful of single notes played on the Bass VI and heavily processed. It's a bit repetitive and very simple, but I like the noises. Maybe the spoken vocals are just too cheesy, I can't decide. Would appreciate your thoughts, maybe this is better as a "mood piece" with no vocals.

I think my next piece may be a bit lighter in mood......

Excellent and very creative! I don't think the spoken word is cheesy at all. It keeps it interesting and from becoming repetitive. I like it all!

Got that movie theme feel and I think the spoken is fine it breaks up the song in a good way

Life is not about the number of Breathes you take, it is the amount of times your breathe is taken away

Oh my word - fabulous.

The soundscape is immense, the editing is seamless, it's engaging and it hooked me immediately, it's just brilliant.

I'd recognise that bass sound anywhere. A wee sonic adventure looking forward to hearing more from you, always with the wait.

Brilliant. I love this kind of stuff. It's interesting and unpredictable. There are some fab sounds in there and it does stand up as a piece of music in it's own right. Think it's gonna be very good in that album you are talking about too. The spoken bit... a big fan of that. I don't think I ever get tired of spoken word in music.

I'm loving this!  Full of movement and menace and great sounds.  Keep the vocal bits in.  It all builds together beautifully, if somewhat disconcertingly.

Back after another enforced absence of a few days to say thanks very much for the feedback everyone. I'll keep the vox in the track. Classic case of listening to it too much and beginning to doubt what I had done.....

Glad it's evoking menacing/disconcerting, because that's what I was going for!

Thanks again for the feedback.

Holy shit! I'm driving with this cranked up and its shaking my soul. I love this!
