Pretty darn pleased with this.  I came across a concert by Snow Patrol on Netflix and heard this song for the first time and thought - wow, I wonder if I can do it?

Rhythm Guitar, Vocal, and drum pattern from a Casio CT-X3000 keyboard were recorded "live" with a Zoom R24.  The guitar was a Gretsch G5438 Pro Jet and the Mic was a AT2010 handheld condenser recorded through a TC Mic Mechanic 2 processor that added hall reverb and tape echo. The guitar went thru a "Fender Clean" patch on the Zoom with preamp high enough to generate distortion in the louder parts of the song.  Bass played on the Casio CT-X3000 was overdubbed.  Tracks were imported into Reaper for mixing and the following Waves plugins were used: Q3 Eq, CLA guitars, CLA vocals, API2500 master bus compressor, L1+ Ultramaximizer.

I've been having the feeling lately it is better to try to record guitar and vocals together to get a tighter, more "real" sounding performance.  This is hard so requires many takes and won't be absolutely perfect.  But punch in corrections usually end up sounding worse.  The other new thing was that I did fairly large volume changes during mixing using track volume automation, to get more "dynamics" between the louder and softer parts of the song.

Please how you do it, in Reaper?

Great work... you put a lot into this and I have been thinking the same about recording guitar and vocals at the same time. I think there is a lot of truth in that. Playing that way I think you sing at slightly different points and put accent in places where you wouldn't normally, which is cool and joins the vocals and guitar together in a more natural way...

Thanks for the comment.  Regarding how to automate the volume changes in reaper.  See the attached screenshot.  On the left side by the track controls, hit the button to the left of the word "trim", where the cursor is in the screenshot.  A menu pops up.  Check "volume" (you can also automate anything, e.g. panning is interesting).  This adds a "plot" below the track where you can draw the desired volume changes.  Right click to add points to the green line at specific times and drag the points up/down to make the volume go up and down.  Hope that helps.

Ah, OK,  I didn't understand... in fact in REAPER (great DAW!) I also use this feature as you can see in the screenshot of TEARS IN HEAVEN that I'm doing, to increase the volume of the pianos in some passages.
...and I also use CLA plug ins of waves that have radically changed my vocals in recent mixes...

I'm getting some ideas from seeing your Reaper screenshot, like color coding tracks, and labeling verses etc.  I will have to figure out. And you also have some different menu layout with compact controls and controls on a left side bar.  Is that some kind of special config or "skin" you got?  Or set  thru menus?

Great recording me I like to record the guitar and vocal together  doing vocals separate is always harder for me some how. Any way recording came through nice and clear great job
