So I like to think that certain musicians that have influenced me actually show up in my work...maybe. John Wesley Harding is one of the most under rated singer/songwriter and made a huge impact on me. This tune is really in my headspace as of late. LITLR in the car with my Kala Archtop Tenor Uke & the BR80.
The Original Miss Jesus
written by John Wesley Harding
performed by Hook
Hey you" she said
"I think that I have something in my eye"
And she posed beneath the standard lamp
As her clothes waved goodbye
And she was
Naked as a new apology
For something she hadn't yet done
And he said "did I ever tell you the one about
The original miss Jesus? "
"born before
Her more famous little brother mister Christ
Sure, there were miracles
But out of the public eye
So they didn't
Think even to have her crucified
She just wrote some novels and then she died
And only her family cried for her
The original miss Jesus
And then he came
The one that they wrote all the books about
The king of the rock opera
Whom she could do without (the sheik of do-without)"
"Stop!" she said
"Jesus could have been a boy or girl
History would still have been unkind
If he'd been a her
Anyway
Just watch me turn this beer into air
As for redemption value, I don't care
But if you want, I'll even pretend to be
The original miss Jesus"
So she was
The saviour
Of that sad and lonely room.

Because the Hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The hook brings you back
On that you can rely

Cool song! Cool performance!

I barely know who John Wesley Harding is. Scratch that... I thought I knew who John Wesley Harding was, but only because the Dylan album title was somewhere in my memory. So I didn't know who John Wesley Harding is until now because I just skimmed his WikiPedia page. So I guess it's true to say that, now, I barely know who John Wesley Harding is.

I'm a fan of your LITLR stuff since you covered "Peace Train." "Grumpy F$#k You Hated" is a thing of wonder as well, which I've only played a thousand times.

I still like the idea of buying a car from a junkyard to convert into an immobile sound booth.

:)... I do have an old farm tractor, very nice... only there's no cab...

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Don't know John Wesley Harding but I enjoyed this, particularly the lyrics. Another great performance as always, you've encouraged me to find out more about JWH.
