Rhythm Guitar and Vocal were recorded "live" with a Zoom R24.  The guitar was a Gretsch G5438 Pro Jet (bought on sale for $250; not bad!) and the Mic was a CAD Live D90 dynamic (bought on sale for $30) recorded through a TC Mic Mechanic 2 processor. Lead guitar and Keyboard Bass (Casio CT-X3000) were then recorded on separate tracks.  Tracks were imported into Reaper for mixing and a drum pattern from EZ Drummer was added.  Waves Plugins used: Q3 Eq, CLA guitars, CLA vocals, GTR3 clean patch, API2500 master bus compressor, L1 Ultramaximizer.

Hey Des0free, I have always loved this tune and you have done a great job here. Completely enjoyed this brother.
Also checked out that guitar, $400 today, good deal. What color did you get?
Rock on!

This is a lovely chilled version of a U2 calssic.  The guitar motif is particularly lovely. Nice souding Gretsch you have there. Very sweet.

Thanks for the feedback guys.  I made a few minor improvements in the revised upload - I added some cymbals to vary the drums, figured out how to fade the drums at the end, and shortened the end a bit.

The guitar is a nice gold metallic - attached is a picture.  I'm not sure I like it as much as my favorite Fender Mustang with P90s, but for this song it worked out fine.  I think a lot of the sound is in what plugins you use...

Very nice job on this one. It's a very nice well balanced arrangement and I thought the vocal performance was excellent. It's all very well recorded and mixed and makes for a very enjoyable listen. Well done!

Thanks  --  I appreciate the encouragement.  I think this is the best recording I've done, and the second best was my recent attempt of "The Scientist" by Coldplay.  Really the first two I can say I was honestly pretty happy with.  I was really very novice when I first started posting on this site about 10 years ago -- don't go listen to some of my early ones...  But it shows that over many years if one keeps practicing and learning one can really improve.

I also modified a little the posted recording to reduce the number of Cymbols hits and their placement - I began to think they are best used much more sparingly.  I know very little about drum theory.  I also added a de-esser to the vocal track that I thought might help in a few spots without otherwise seeming to distort it much.

I hadn't heard that... excellent.

I'm not surprised that your voice went through the CLA

QuoteI'm not sure I like it as much as my favorite Fender Mustang with the P90s,

...I had a Fender Mustang guitar in the 65-70s, in France it was very, very rare (it wasn't mine, lent by a music store!)...but the regional groups in my country wanted me to play with them especially for " LA GUITARE "

continue to publish material and method (technical advice) it is very interesting

bye from France

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
