So here is another cover of a cover from This Mortal Coil, one of my favorite "bands" and their 3 albums are each absolutely brilliant. This song is originally from the band Pearls Before Swine in 1970 but covered in the 80s by TMC. It is off the album Filigree & Shadow (their 2nd & the 1st one I got) and when I heard Dominic Appletons deep voice come through the speakers I was hooked! I did this over the last few days with my Kala Archtop Tenor Uke, my Ipad (garage band & thumbjam) & the br80.
1 uke (stereo)
1 drums-GB(stereo)
1 lead vocal (stereo)
2 bass-GB
2 piano-GB (stereo)
1 Erhu-GB
1 muted trumpet_TJ
4 background vocals (stereo)
The Jeweller
written by Tom Rapp
performed by Hook
Jeweller has a shop on the corner of the boulevard.
In the night, in small spectacles he polishes old coins.
He uses spit and cloths and ashes.
He makes them shine with ashes.
He knows the use of ashes.
He worships God with ashes.
The coins are often very old by the time they reach the jeweller.
With his hand and ashes he will try the best he can.
He knows that he can only shine them, cannot repair the scratches.
He knows that even new coins have scars so he just smiles.
He knows the use of ashes.
He worships god with ashes.
In the darkest of the night.
Both his hands will blister badly.
They will often open painfully and the blood flows from his hands.
He works to take from black coin faces, the thumb prints from so many ages.
He wishes he could cure the scars.
When he forgets he sometimes cries.
He knows the use of ashes.
He worships god with ashes.
He knows, He knows
He worships God with ashes

I dont think you can and I dont think you would want to. The coolest part of thumbjam is that it reaponds to the devices movements. On the violin/bass/viola when you slide your finger across the screen it makes it sound like the bow going across the strings. When you shake your finger or the device it creats vibrato and when you lift it up and down or side to side it bends the pitch...amazing stuff.
Do you have an ipad, phone or iPod? You dont need service to use the app just a wireless connection to download it. It is so worth getting at least a used one.
Now How to connect...i use a 1/8 inch (mp3 player cord) and plug it straight into my aux input ofnthe br80. If your interface doesnt have the right input a stereo adapter to 1/4 inch should work.
Thanks for the the listen.
Rock on!

Wow - this is so good. It put a big smile on my face.
I'm in a bit of a hiatus at the moment - not really sure why. I think I just need a break, priorities, life, work etc but miss all you guys!
This tune made my day brother, and is a reminder to me why we do what we do ....

Really well done Hook! I like your deep voice on this one. The GB and TJ instruments work excellent here!

Beautifully done, Hook. Although I wasn't familiar with TMC's version before, I do remember the Pearls Before Swine original (I "discovered" them in the 90s when I was devouring into all the 60s psychedelic music that I could find).

I love all the details you put into this - everything is just right (and super job on the vocals/backing vocals, too).

Psych on!

Really nice job here Hook. You captured the feel of this track really well, I really like the vocal performance. It's all very well put together and you have a nice mix of instruments in there.

I never saw TMC back in the day but this is making me want to go back and listen to some of their stuff. Well done!

I'm not familiar with the original, but to my ear this could be a Hook original!

Fine job on each way!

I polish the "windows" of the fireplace with ash and paper - works well :D
