EG this song was at 70 BPM so other tracks had 280 (70x4) or 560(70 x 8) for example
I've done the same discovery, and it also applies to tremolo and to some degree phaser/flanger/chorus (if high speed and depth). Did similar calculation on "Gone".

Good thing you've got the raw recording! Let's hear a remix when you're done with it!!

cheers

Quote from: M_Glenn_M on May 21, 2009, 12:56:17 AMThis sounded ok on the headphones but the VOX comes out muddy on the MP3 and over my computer speakers.

Quote from: M_Glenn_M on May 21, 2009, 08:17:03 AMIt sounded great by itself but did not survive the mastering.

Mastering is optional. If it sounded great before mastering, why not create an un-mastered mix using bounce mode, then export the bounced pair of v-tracks to a WAV or MP3 file (see page 112/113 of the Micro BR manual, 3rd edition). I would try it both as an MP3 and as a WAV file so that you can determine if the conversion to MP3 is part of the problem.

Again excellent advice. I have had better sound without mastering on occasion.
I have tried some of the advice here. mostly doubling the vox per BB's suggestion.
I've come to the conclusion that the original room I did the vox in (Bathroom) added an ambiance that is very hard to get rid of.
So it's a patch job or re-do the vox.
Lazy that I am, it's a patch job. Live and learn. Thanks everyone.
I don't know how to add a revision to a thread so I'll start a new one.

Hey Glen, may want to try tweaking the EQ a bit before giving up on this.  I have posted some info that I had on what EQ settings to target for certain results.  It is posted in the General Discussion section.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

Thanks BB, I'll do that. I do have the original trax and should try a remix from the ground up.
It's good practice even if nothing else comes of it.
EQ is a good place to start for sure.
Eventually I'll get into Compression and Limiting in some detail too.
I get the idea, I just have no clue as to what settings to tweak for what problems. (EG if it sounds too much like this, do that)

Cool country-reggae tune - vox sounds fine to me !

If I could put out singing like this I'd be delighted...

I think the sound is great indeed, but th EQ is kind of high. Be careful when using Enhancer effects and also with the tone of the reverb.

Other than that, great song! Congratulations!

Glenn Mitchell

Thanks again guys. Wraith, what does it mean EQ is "high"? Does it sound too treble on your system? I was concerned because the Vox was too muffled for my liking.

when mastering with headphones it can sound great on headphones but anywhere else not o good. i tend to master using a cheap pair of powered pc speakers if i can get it to sound good on them i know it will sound good on anything, be it a hi end hifi or  a kiddys cd player.
