Hey everyone, this is another really rough piece I recorded in the first week after I bought my MBR. It's just two parts repeated a few times, not a properly structured song.. yet. It's a little more rockish than my usual style of playing, probably due in part to my playing in drop d.

This was also my first attempt at bounce recording, I think there's 6 tracks of guitar on this. It turned out alright, though I probably could have mixed it better. I don't own a bass or any other instruments (although I do digitally compose music on my computer and I'll be experimenting with incorporating that as time goes on).

Forgive the lack of a proper drum track, I hadn't yet figured out how to arrange the rhythm, so it just repeats the same Rock 2 verse throughout. I accidentally deleted the song file so I'd have to re-record it to re-do the drums. But at least I got the basic idea down! After all the MBR makes a great scratch pad for ideas.

To be honest, after listening to so many of your excellent recordings I felt a little intimidated to post another rough, simple track, but I figure this community is all about sharing so I went ahead and did it anyway.

I hit something of a wall after that first week, and my recording and playing hasn't been as successful or satisfying to listen to as the first few things I recorded, but I'm not letting up! There is much to learn yet!

I love the abstract nature of this. The panned/doubled guitar sound great - very good use of both channels.

I know how you feel about having no bass - If you detune strings and mess with the preamps, an ok substitute can be created.

You should keep working on this one (I hope you didn't erase it!)

See you around town,

Glad you posted it. I like the "minimalistic" approach in the song structure that's contrasted with the massive soundscape.

Looking forwad to hear what you come up with next!!

I think you sounded good.  Not a problem to my ears.  Look at what you will do when you get all the amazing features down.

Thanks. I have experimented a bit with trying to simulate bass, but I haven't yet come up with something I like. I will keep at it though. Unfortunately, I did erase the song file from my BR and so I'll have to re-record it to keep working on it, which is fine by me as I always see room for improvement. I might try a "clean" version sometime.

Thanks Geir, I wish I could say the song structure was something I planned out but as I said before it just turned out that way because I wanted to diddle around. To be honest I'm not much of a composer or songwriter in that I know very little about theory or structure. That and until I encounter someone who wants to provide vocals, I have little use for the verse/chorus/verse structure commonly found in music. I just take it where my fingers wanna go. :P

Thank you Wiley, I am very excited to know the ins and outs of the unit. It helps that this site has a number of helpful tutorials and people in the community who answer questions!

Hey! No need to feel intimidated. We all come to this forum with a wide range of age, musical ability and recording experience. The finer points of rhythm programming will come, but no matter - you're well on your way with this one. It's a gutsy, indie little rocker. If you find your way onto collaborations, you could get some bass and vocals to turn this into a very fine song. The guitars are great, and you definitely have a good 'feel' for music generally. This is the start of something big!

Ferryman_1957

This is a really good piece. OK, you could probably put some more gloss on the recording and bass would help (you can always post this in Collabrations), but the structure of your guitars is excellent. Good news about the MBR - you can go back and change the drums anytime, so that won't be an issue.

The basic chord sequence and repeating riff is really good, but the counterpoint guitar leads really lift this and give it a very different feel. There's real potential here, I would keep developing this.

BTW, check out some of Indierik's postings. He's not around here any more but you will really like his style of intertwining guitars.

Cheers,

Nigel
