...I couldn't help but cover "Katmandu", song of Cat Stevens for the festival dedicated to her.

I did a humanitarian mission in Shangu (30 km from Kathmandu, on the foothills of the Hymalaya, in 2007

To illustrate this song, I drew from the many photos and videos I made

I was not in Kathmandu in the 70s, at that time it was the mythical destination of all Hippies (as well as India, see Beatles and Donovan...)
All instruments by JeePee (my nepales name...)

Peace and love, all the songcrafters people

Really nice fingerstyle playing, JP. My knowledge of Cat Stevens songs is mostly confined to what I heard on the radio back in the 1970s, but this sounds very good to me.

What's the flute instrument? It adds a really nice touch.

Thanks Farrell and Cuthbert
QuoteWhat's the flute instrument? It adds a really nice touch.

I used a soundfont flute from the Merlin Orchestra set (free soundfont) with an equalizer to have a softer sound and a  Deep Taj Mahal covolution reverb ( all this is free, with Reaper as Daw )

at the end of the song I put a Music Box, still from soundfont Merlin
these two midi instruments are played on a master keyboard M Audio 88

I needed to leave the flute so that it would match my images from the video of the Nepalese girl I met in a temple in Kathmandu who came spontaneously to ask me to try the little Bansuri flute I had just bought on the street. (like also the old man)

Note that in the version recorded by Cat Stevens, it was...Peter Gabriel who played the flute part  ;)

Stunning cover, although I'm not familiar with the original. So well performed and the flute is wonderful!

Well done, JP!
