My "late entry" for 80s fest...

This one was composed by the immense Pat Metheny in 1982; it's in his "Offramp" album.

When I began to think to make a cover of this tune, I already knew it won't be easy at all...well, I couldn't imagine how difficult it was...so here's the reason of the delay.  :P

Maybe this time ho fatto il passo più lungo della gamba, or (it should be) in English, I've got ahead of myself...I don't know...anyway:

apart for the backing tracks, made with BIAB as usual, the guitar this time is the Yamaha SA2200, and for the synth parts I've used the Godin Freeway SA going into the Boss GR-55 guitar synth.

Enjoy!

 :)

it's nice to hear jazz on SC
Congratulations Alfredo, what a job!
A question.... how did you manage to get the 8mn  of your song into an MP3 file that should not exceed 7mn 35 on SC?

Coincidentally! I'm preparing a song by John Scofield, a friend of Pat Metheny's! ;)
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

JP, after all the mixing/mastering work, I export everything to a .wav file 44100 Hz, 16 bit: that's the normal and usual standard resolution for CD quality. That's the file I usually upload to Soundcloud.
After that, I save one copy of this "mastered".wav file as mp3 file.
At this precise moment, each DAW (I use Audition) usually offers you the possibility to choose the mp3 format setting. The only thing to keep is the usual 44100 Hz, but you can modify the kbps setting: for a short tune/song, you may prefer even very high kbps resolutions, such as 224, 256 or even 320 kbps.
If instead, as in "Are You Goung with Me?", the tune is more than 8 minutes long, you need someway a compromise, to remain inside the Songcrafters' upload limits. This means that you will save the mp3 file with a LOWER kbps resolution. Try 112, save, check out the mp3 dimension, if you are "inside" problem solved, if NOT, go down at 96.
Of course, higher the kbps resolution, better audio quality...
I hope it make sense...  ::)

Life is not about the number of Breathes you take, it is the amount of times your breathe is taken away

Jeez - do you know how soothing this is? I found myself just looping this and vibing out. So, thanks for that! Can tell you put some effort in this.

Wow, a big thing to undertake... but it turned out fabulous. Some lovely guitar / synth work in there. Yep Pat M is a great player/composer but you have done a sweet job on this here.

Never listened to Pat Methany, my loss by the sound of it. An awesome piece of work that is just pure class from beginning to end. Bravo.     Willie
