I struggle to write happy uplifting tunes, my songs tend to be a bit dirgey and downbeat. so i read a bit about happy chords, as you can hear it didn't help.
I tried to write a happy song
But it's difficult to do
Is it just down to the mood I'm in
Or because I lack the skill
I tried to find the lost chord
But I don't know where to look
My fingers just can't reach the notes
No matter how I try
I just want to write a happy song
I just wanna spread some joy
I just want to write a happy song
I just wanna spread some joy
Spread some joy
I want the world to be a happy place
Where we all can get along
Seems everybody got to fight someone
For what? Nobody knows
I need to try and write a happy song
As hard as it may be
I need to write a happy song
For you and for me
I just want to write a happy song
I just wanna spread some joy
I just want to write a happy song
I just wanna spread some joy
Spread some joy

A nice and happy sound ORH. I can hear that you are getting the hang of that HB Tele. It sounds bright and jingly. I'd say you accomplished your goal of writing an upbeat one.  Well done!

This song may not be happy, but it is hopeful, I think. At least, it's not sad or depressing. And it sounds good. And it made me happy listening so that's kinda the same thing, right?

This could have been written for me, I also struggle to find happiness a great topic for song writing, misery is so much easier. Nicely produced as always.    Willie

Hi Jim,

Sounds like you do want to write a happy song. Its a great song now because there is lots of irony in it.

However.......

I am supposing that you wrote the lyrics of this first?

I often do this too and the hardest thing to do is work out how to sing the words.

There are hundreds of possibilities. I sing the words in different ways and styles and tempos and try to find the "feel". Then I work out the chords and put down the drums to help arrange the parts.

Why am I telling you this?

Because I think that you could easily make this a "happy" song if you wanted to.

Happy new year,

Ian

that's something i very rarely do, usually the words come last, sometimes i have a riff and a scattering of words, but no words for this one came last.
