Nights And Weekends

I wrote this song to the title, a prompt at a challenge site. The idea of the song came from "Waiting On A Train" by the bottle rockets and a recent custody battle a friend is going through. I like how it turned out.

I stick out my thumb
Only eight miles from town
It's so cold early this morning and
My old car broke down

I've got a little girl
Supposed to be there by ten
I only get to see her a few nights
And every other weekend

The judge said I'm no good
And my visits must be supervised
But I'm doing the best I can
I hope that I'm still getting by

Don't you know
Can't you see
I love my little girl
She's the best of me

I hope to see a car
Popping over the hill
I don't have time enough to walk
But if I have to I will

The judge said I'm no good
And my visits must be supervised
But I'm doing the best I can
I hope that I'm still getting by

Don't you know
Can't you see
I love my little girl
She's the best of me

What a cracking track. It's got a real powerful movement to it. It suits the lyric perfectly and bangs home the message.

Perfect, a great piece of songwriting. Played and recorded brilliantly.

This is really good.

Yes sir, I dig this one a lot. You really captured a side of things not often explored. Nice lead work in this also.
Rock on!

This is an excellent song T.C.! The lyric and melody flow together so well and really drive home the anguish and urgency of the guy wanting to see his daughter, what ever it takes. Your choice to add the tremolo rhythm guitar was a good one. Nice vocals, lead guitar and acoustic work also...well done!

Yes, this did turn out well. I enjoyed (or lamented rather) the story and the music that bound it. Well done, a great tune!

Excellent work. Really well written and arranged, the lyrics tell the story in a subtle and poignant way. I liked the melodic lead lines, they create a nice hook. Very well recorded and produced, a lot to like here. Which I did!
