new version of this song I knew in the 70s by Seldom scene (Act Two), bluegrass band with Mike Auldridge who made me love the Dobro
This version is specially dedicated to Tim (TBD) who had been kind enough to sing me a version with a variation in the melody

In this version I have taken up the original melodic line of the song (by Norman Blake)
I do the guitars, Dobro, harmonica
the mandolin, the banjo are BIAB guys
the vocals are recorded directly with my laptop...so not great for the sound, I'll do it again when I get my sound card back
I put the lyrics on screen (why?)

     C                G        F                 C
Well it was good one time everything was mighty fine
                   G             C
The coal tipples roared day and night
     C              G             F            C
But things they got slow for no reason that I know
     C              G         C
And ill winds they hove into sight

     C                G        F          C
The mines all closed down everybody laid around
                   G           C
There wasn't very much left to do
                      G                F               C
Except stand in that line to get your ration script on time
                   G             C
And woman I could see it killin' you

         C                G    C
Now the soft new snows of December
        Am  F           C
Lightly fall my cabin 'round
                             F
And the last train from Poor Valley
        C    F      G     F        C
Takin' brown haired Becky Richmond bound

                          G       F                 C
It's been a comin' on and on lord soon you would be gone
                      G          C
Leavin' crossed your mind every day
                 G             F                 C
Then you said to me things are bad back home you see
                 G        C
I guess I better be on my way

                         G         F              C
Well I should blame you now but I never could somehow
                     G               C
A miner's wife you weren't cutout to be
                    G                 F                 C
It wasn't what you thought just some dreams that you'd bought
                       G             C
When you left home and ran away with me

         C                G    C
Now the soft new snows of December
        Am  F           C
Lightly fall my cabin 'round
                             F
And the last train from Poor Valley
        C    F      G     F        C
Takin' brown haired Becky Richmond bound

Yes Redler is an effect of automatic translation
I meant in French  "nouvelle mouture"  and automatic traslation  give "new draft"
Actually, I meant to say "new version or  new presentation ::)

thank you Alex

... a friend give me ththis is very interesting information about the context of this song
Quote...Following the closing of the underground mines, coal companies began above-ground strip mining. Thus came John Prine's song, "Paradise" aka "Mr. Peabodys Coal Train". A drive west from Richmond goes through that coal country in the Appalachian Mountains - "the land that was forsaken" where poverty is extreme and much of the male population lives with lifelong injuries from coal mining related accidents.

thank you Demis
