As Long As The Price Is Right - cover by AndyR

AndyR

I finished this one a few months back. It's a cover of Larry Wallis's "As long as the price is right", which was one of my favourite Dr Feelgood songs back in the 80s.

I hit a snag after doing the tracking - I found out that the BR's drum patterns do not seem to include any 2/4 bars, and there are some lurking in this performance. I figured out a variety of ways of using multiple arrangements, recording them to different tracks and then editing. But seeing as it was really just an exercise in recording a particular guitar and finding out how it fitted in a mix, and I'd already spent days fiddling with the project - I decided to leave the single pattern all the way through...

I also decided to leave the guide vocal on there rather than try and replace it with a better one ::) I did give it several goes before I gave up - but I can't sing like Lee Brilleaux, so I went for a more whispery voice and then put some effort into making it sound like I sang down a telephone line, in an attempt to hide the problems 8)

However, ignoring the vocal, the "band mix" of this one is, so far, the home-recording I'm most proud of... and I've been doing it quite a long time now on-and-off.

Yes sir, have have introduced yourself here now with this one.  You are truly a one man band.  Your recording and mixing and all that side of things is brilliant, I could learn a few tricks from you for sure.  Good one, very good one.  You vocals are very good.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

Guys, you're making me feel very welcome - many thanks  :)

I'm just putting together the post for my third recording out of the BR that I finished the other day. You might understand then (I hope?  :-\) why I'm less happy with the vocals on this one here. Although, I must admit, if I didn't like these vocals, they wouldn't be on here!  ;D

Great! I love the guitar that you panned to the right!

It's all sounding wonderful! You sure are productive!

Great job Andy!
If you loose track over a chord progression, play as fast as you possibly can. Nobody will know. Thats how they invented bebop.

I've never heard this one before, so it's brand new to me! Great playing and the vox are top notch, even though you are "less happy" with them! :D

Pretty cool solo, too.

Good job, just needs some frantic Wilco type soloing over the top and you're done... I thought the vox were great - you're right not to try to ape Lee B. The recording sounds good as well. Larry Wallis, The Feelgoods, aah memories.

Cheers,

Nigel
