One potential shortcoming of the TASCAM Model 24 that I noticed is that there are no LED level indicators next to the faders on the individual tracks. Instead, it looks like the levels for all 22 tracks would be viewed on the small LCD display. That could be kind of hard to see. On the other hand, if there were LED indicators next to the faders, it might be hard to see them all at once since they'd cover such a large area. Not sure which would be best but it might be nice to have both. Mind you, they would have had to make the case wider to accommodate all those LED indicators next to each fader.

The Zoom LiveTrak L-20 has LEDs next to the faders. However, the TASCAM is much better than the Zoom in many other ways.

One seemingly minor feature of the TASCAM that is missing from the Zoom and most other mixers on the market is that TASCAM has wisely left some space at the bottom of the mixer's front panel where you can run a strip of masking tape on which you can write mnemonics of what's on each track. This is a trick that's been used in professional studios, live mixing, and radio for decades. The masking tape is often applied in many layers so that when a project is finished, you can peel off the top layer to reveal a fresh new layer and you're ready for the next project. The multiple layers also prevent the ink from your Sharpie from bleeding through to the surface of the mixer. There is also special console tape you can buy that's designed not to bleed or leave a sticky residue behind on the gear.

I would sure enough love to try one of the Tascam 24s... but... this is coming into my anniversary of 3 years with the Zoom L-20... and to be honest... I would not recommend this for someone new at this...but I also don't feel as I need anything else... in other words... I am in no way disappointed in it...

there is alot better gear.. but it costs alot more too... and most people just go DAW... which I mix alot on Daw... but lately I have going more just on the board... I like fiddling with knobs.

Because of course there is!

I once worked in a small office right next to the shipping department. One of my co-workers couldn't stand the sound of packing tape being pulled from a tape gun. He insisted that the boss buy "noiseless" packing tape.

I should have invested in the tape sector.
