Don't Mondays come round fast! The last one for a few weeks as I'm off to France on Saturday  ;D

One of my psychedelic-leaning songs, so don't look for any meaning in the lyric! It's a Victoriana Carnaby Street fantasy: think 60's hussar jackets & Sgt Pepper military vibes.

Features Epiphone Les Paul Gold Top, Fender MiM Strat, Fender Precision bass, vocals, plus Garageband drums, electric piano and organs. A fair bit of tremolo and phaser effects too. All mixed and recorded on the MBR.

The Third Duke of Carnaby

Arriving in the London grey
A peacock stepping off the plane
Fans its tail
A bloom of iridescent green:
A tonic for the troops who've seen
The empire fade... away

The third duke of Carnaby
Swirling in the rain in paisley

He's the king's own regiment lothario
He'll drink your health then suddenly it's time to go
Backwards through the battlefields and ghosts of time
Memories that rain upon these roofs like wine

What happened to the music scene –
Was it all the spaced-out dream
Of dead hussars?
Washing lines get black from soot
And pictures that the butler took
Leave dirty marks

The third duke of Carnaby
Swirling in the rain like paisley

He's the king's own regiment lothario
He'll drink your health then suddenly he'll have to go
Backwards through the battlefields and ghosts of time
Memories that rain upon these roofs like wine

The third duke of Carnaby
Swirling in the rain of paisley

The third duke of Carnaby...

Hi Tim, thanks for another wonderful song. I love the swirling phasers and tremolo. The keys add a lovely layer as well. Beautifully evocative.

Good luck in France. I hope you win :-)

Tim, all these songs you do are so damn good, are you on Spotify?
Consider it, you deserve to have these heard by large numbers.
Lovely song.

Top class as we've come to expect. I think it captures the feel of an era when I used to wander round Soho just soaking up the atmosphere of a whole new world. Great song, and have a great time in France.  Willie

A nice touch of psychedelic swirl, and some great imagery in the lyrics. Yes, I dig it!

When I saw the title, I thought this may include psychedelic stuff - I was right :)

Loved the chord progression with tremolo guitar. The bass line sounds so good, organ with other instruments puts some Beatles vibe to the end.

Excellent work, Tim! Have a nice holiday in France!

Tim, I like the 60's psychedelic vibe of this song. When the keys enter at the chorus, it's music to my ears. I also like when you drop the vocal effects on the verses later in the song. Sometimes no effect is a great effect. Well done on this song!
