Great job!

I've been a Metallica fan since the beginning, and you definitely did that song justice. ;)

Ok so I got busy this weekend and redid the song, this time I recorded it with my video camera in addition to the MicroBR and made a one man band split screen video kinda thing as I was learning how to use Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 LOL, anyways, just thought I'd share...... I worked hard on this took about 15 takes for the main rhythm/vocal tracks before I got a good one without too many mistakes. I am running my SM58 mic through the PA though as no matter what I try it just sounds dead when plugged into the MicroBR.

I've been really nervous about capturing myself on video as I used to be in good shape and have a full head of long hair so yea...... dam genetics..... but my Girlfriend and kids insist I look "cool" enough to post it on youtube so here ya go.

Damn Dman man that is one cool video.  Your voice is really great (that Shure SM58 Mic seems to do the trick with your voice.  I have one and I kinda like it with my voice, its seems to suit a certain type of voice nicely).  And guess what, you do look cool, in a sorta middle aged way.  Hey it is OK to be a cool middle aged guy.  You playing all those instruments and singing like your life depends on it is is what makes you look cool here.  I am glad you posted this, I really enjoyed this.

Great performance!!

BTW: re mic ... in my experience you'll have to get really close to a dynamic mic to get a good sound out of it on the MBR

Awesome video...I'm not gay, but you look cool enough to me hahahh!  Dude, I'm telling ya, you have a James-like quality to your voice! Sony Vegas huh?~ I'm gonna have to look into that.  Dude, I gotta know where you got those drums!!!!! Please fill me in!!!!!!!!!!  Excellent post!!

P.S. I hope you don't have to look cool to post vids on Youtube....I've posted quite a few of my own!!  Not near the quality and class of this tho~ Good work my friend.

I liked your cover, and the video was very cool - You look better than James Hetfield! Very skilled playing, and the vox sound just like the real thing - can't believe it.

With your mic, are you using this or something similar to plug into the MBR?

I have one, but never tried it because I like the onboard mic. It's supposed to keep the high impedance input (Like the MBR's) from stripping out the high-frequency response. It's expensive ($20) and I want to return it if i doesn't work.

Great performance!

WOW thanks for all the supportive replies... this community is the best. just an FYI I used the mp3 Trainer function and sang along with the original recording about 150 times just to get it down, man it's such a good feature of the MicroBR because it really made me realize how often I was singing the notes flat... not just here and there but all the time. This whole project was a major lesson for me in learning how to move my vocal chords to hit those notes in key, and I never really realized how much breathing is involved until I buckled down and wouldn't quit until I could hit it on the money.

Another really useful thing I did was learn the vocal melody note for note on my guitar and practice it over and over picking each note.

To be honest, I was also practicing to do the harmonies.... but nope my voice just cannot reach those octives for the chorus yet.

As for the SM58, I plug it into a ART TubeMP preamp (the cheap $40 one(canadian dollars)), then feed it into the PA then used the recording output on the phonic powerpod PA into the MicroBR miniplug line in with the effects turned off. took a fair amount of tweakage to get to the levels I wanted without distorting.

Anyways, I'm done with this one and am going to pick an all original song next and see how that turns out. Peace and thanks for everyones support!!!

That's so cool when the video splits as you add layers! Your playing is amazing. I love those natural harmonics, but still can't get them right. Definitely better than most stuff on YouTube! Big thumbs up!!!
