I was looking for info on "my funny valentine" on SC and know if this standard had been done
I came across a message from Oldrottenhead of 2010 on a topic of ORH, Alfredo and flash (excellent):
"never heard of chris botti so am currently listening to his version of my funny valentine on you tube its braw."
I listened to this version of Chris Botti (trumpet) and Sting (vocals), and actually very braw ;)

This Jazz standard has often been used in Melodica
I like this little instrument (mine by Thoman is very cheap 19,90 euro with the case !),  because it allows a modulation of the sound on the notes held

The guitar part is played with my Epiphone Les Paul
I tried to make an impro that sounds "jazz" (it was rather difficult, I'm so used to playing with the pentatonic scale that I have a lot of trouble getting out)

Special dedication to Alfredo who with his tribute to charlie Mingus made me want to make a piece "jazz"

Thank for listening

Hey, JP, merci beaucoup!  :)

One of the most beautiful melodies in jazz (...well, not only in jazz), and your version makes shivers on my skin...

Alfredo

P.S. in my youth days I have listened several times in the local jazz club (Palermo is a very jazzy city...) at various versions of My Funny Valentine, BUT, the version I WILL NEVER FORGET was by Chet Baker, in January 1976. At that time he had very big problems playing trumpet, since for drug problems a pusher had just broken his teeth, but his voice...oh, what a voice...

This is from a 1987 concert in Japan:

but...just listen to it. Fantastic.

Very nice work on this one. The melodica sounds great and very jazzy. Nice guitar playing as well, all round a great version of this classic.

Jean Pierre

thank you Mister Ferryman

actually this instrument, which is not a toy, deserves to be known
I paid mine, new, 19 euros! ... but there are models of factor (luthier) who can cost 500 to 600 euros

... and there are virtuoso performers of this instrument
as Mario Duenas :http://marioduenasmusic.com/

and my Argentinean friend Luis Ferreira who gave me the urge to resume this song

Interesting, I did not know that about the Melodica. I always thought of it as something schoolkids played as a step up from the recorder. Great to see and hear it played properly!
