I love Traffic's version, but the origin of this song goes way back to the 16th century. Here's a partial quote from the Wikipedia article:

Countless versions of this song exist. A version of the song is included in the Bannatyne Manuscript of 1568, and English broadside versions from the 17th century are common. Robert Burns published his own version in 1782, and modern versions abound. Burns's version makes the tale somewhat mysterious and, although not the original, it became the model for most subsequent versions of the ballad.

I really like this - listened to it twice, once on speakers, once on headphones.

I personally like the fully panned vocals, they seem to balance nicely that way for me. Whenever I've tried panning vocal parts that far it never sounds quite right with my voice...

I didn't miss anything in the "centre" until I'd read the other comments and listened again.

I like Ted's suggestion of copying the guitar on the left, panning it right and shifting by 1/100 of a second (in fact, I hadn't discovered yet that you could shift by small amounts like that on the Micro - so I'll be checking this out myself!), but would I be right in suspecting that the vocal on the left and the main guitar were recorded at the same time, and are therefore on the same track? If that's the case, I'd be loathe to give up the effect of panning the two vocals in order to be able to move the guitars.

If you've got two guitars on there, I'd try panning the second one across a bit. I'd even consider recording another guitar to put over on the right somewhere. But, like I said, I didn't notice any gap in the stereo that worried me until others had pointed it out (and even then it still doesn't bother me as a listener) :)

Thanks andy , there are in fact two guitars and a vox on one track , and me singing a harmony on another , but because my mate kelvin plays more in the background to my guitar the onboard mike didn't pick him up as strong----we might do this song again a bit differently another time---thanks

Wow! I hadn't realised the whole thing was done with the onboard mic - that is very impressive (both you and the BR  ;D).

I use the onboard mic for banging down quick ideas, but I've never considered trying to get a finished recording out of it. I even get the "real" mic out to do guide vocals. I shall look at those little holes above A<>B in a new light!

Bro

Excellent job on the vocals!

I love it, perfect!
If you loose track over a chord progression, play as fast as you possibly can. Nobody will know. Thats how they invented bebop.
