Here in Ireland weather warnings are being issued... Red Alert Weather warning etc. Schools closing, businesses closing, repeated warnings from the government, main story on the news, etc. I could be very wrong but from what I can gather it will be very cold, there will be some snow (maybe up to 20 - 30 cm) for 2 or 3 days and then back to normal.

To me it seems a massive over reaction courtsey of the modern obsession with 24 hour news feeds, facebook, global connectivity, etc. When I was a kid ocassionally in winter you woke up, yes maybe there was some deep snow and very low temperatures, but you just got on with it best you could quite happily. Now there is a big fanfare and warnings as if its armageddon is coming.

I think we should be grateful that we do not really get extreme weather like other parts of the world. For example In Russia, Sweden or Finland they have to contend with really difficult conditions. And not to mention all the other parts of the world like our friends in America that have to contend with hurricanes, tornados and the like.

Anyway I hope I do not have to eat my words as tomorrow and Friday are the worst days allegedly... lets see... hehe

For example In Russia, Sweden or Finland they have to contend with really difficult conditions.

I think it has to do with the frequency of the events: for instance, these days in Italy few centimetres of snow are enough to block everything (railways, airports...)

It is actually dangerous to go out here.
My work has closed and getting back home last night from my shift was scary.
The problem I think is local authorities not being on the ball here.
They all knew it was coming .
Roads are chaos.

Been snowing here in Dunkeld for about a week then Sunday it cleared Then on Tuesday night it started and has hardly stopped since, Tuesday someone videoed Deer in the early hours of the morning it's not unusual we see a lot of deer here but these were walking down the high street of Dunkeld. on Red alert here, last Saturday I sold my 4wd I have had 4wds for about 10 years, and I bought a golf, talking about bad timing.

Snowing sure causes big problems in the countries where vehicles have no winter tyres.

Here's is now -23 centigrades (-9F) but no wind, it's ok weather. to me. I wait a few hours and go for skiing

In tuesday morning when I went to work, it was really cold. It was -20 C with 12 m/s wind, that means -35 C (-31F)!!

eeek, after watching late night news i started getting a bit anxious. after about 4.00 later today it will be proper blizzard conditions... which we never normally get... lets see!!

Very strong scirocco (south wind) tonight and right now, so the temperature raised up from 8°C of yesterday to 23°C (!!!) of today.

It's quite likely that in the next weekend Mondello beach will be full...
