Quote from: launched on May 12, 2009, 10:45:41 PMGot this in my head from FH's reference in one of Greeny's postings. I'm probably one of the few people in my area that knew the Quo wrote the song and not Camper van Beethoven (Who I do like) or Type O Negative (Like them, too) and others. Think I have four covers of this song...

I didn't really clean it up too well, one take playing, no bass and had some mental blockage (Covers are tough - my first if you don't count the a capella Pilot disaster!) that prevented me from really getting anywhere with this. I have a few unfinished arrangements of my own that I'm working on which I'd like get back to again, for better or worse.

It all started with trying to get a striking match sound with an old pick I had.......

Peace,

Mark

The .mp3 didn't post - just had IE8 "Forced" on me. Maybe that's it?

Great fun! Really psychedelic, which is how it should be. Took me back to 1968 and playing the riff on my first ever guitar (nylon strung classical if you can believe that). I'd prefer the vox a bit higher in the mix but this captures the right feel of the song. Much prefer psychedelic Quo to rocky denim Quo myself.

Cheers,

Nigel

Good old psychedelic version this is!! Great arrangement here except I miss the bass (why couldn't boss have put in an octaver effect?) Can't remember the original but this one worked out well. Nice solo/fills!!

Oh well ........

Really great job Mark.  It sounds real tight and grooving.  Great vocals also.  How did you do the vocals if you dont mind my asking?

Lovely job!!!! The panned, spaced-out vocals are excellent, and should be brought up in the mix a bit (in my opinion). Very tight guitar work too. All that's missing is some bass and wah-pedal accents. Love it though - great to hear.

Great Job!
I agree with Nigel. This is one of my favorite old songs, and also one of the
first that I ever played on my first ever guitar also. [Which also was a nylon strung classical guitar, by the way...].
Nice job.

nothing is real... So theres nothing to get hung about!

I also like the denim-clad Quo of the seventies - don't tell anyone though, lol.

I was a bit peturbed to see Rick Parfitt appearing on 'Celebrity Mr & Mrs' on Saturday though. Not exactly rock and roll. Oh... I was the one watching it, so I guess that's not exactly rock and roll either!

Thanks guys - I did have fun making it, just had a tough time with it for some reason.

I wish it had an octave patch, too - what I really want is my bass back - did you hear that, (Name withheld) :)

BB, I used the "Make Dogs Howl" patch! Just kidding (I was born with this voice so I'll take what I got) - I used:

Onboard mic with the 06:Only Chorus
Turned on default settings for AMP,SP,NS,FX
Delay settings: TAP, 10ms, Feedback 46, E. Level 49

2 Tracks of Vox hard panned (And yes, Nigel and Greeny caught me hiding them a little bit  ;))

Catch you later,

Mark

Nice effects first of all!

And yeah, it was awesome. I really enjoyed the vocals, first time i have ever enjoyed a effected vox! :D Great!
If you loose track over a chord progression, play as fast as you possibly can. Nobody will know. Thats how they invented bebop.
