...it's not the "on the road again" from  Canned Heat  ;D, but... a song called "on the road again" by a french songwriter  Bernard Lavillier

Bernard Lavilliers is a French singer-songwriter, born October 7, 1946
"On the Road again" appears on the album "If .."  released in 1988
Bernard Lavilliers, who was sometimes accused of plagiarism, was strongly inspired by the words of Victor Hugo's " Tuileries" ("We are two funny / Broad shoulders, / Happy bandits, / Knowing laughter and beat") and " Si tu t'en va"  de Léo Ferré ("If you go away / The sea will always come / To the shore") and would have plagiarized the lyrics of the chorus of the song "Errer humanum est" written by Hubert-Félix Thiéfaine in tribute to Jack Kerouac

the song is made on the repetition of 4 bars and a chord progression I always liked Em9, G2, B2, D2

[-------0------0-------2-------5------------]
[-----0------2-------2------5---------------]
[---4------0--------4------7----------------]
[-2---------------2------5------------------]
[--------3----------------------------------]

I have a little "dilapidated" the end of the song with my Les Paul plugged into Guitar rig 5 and a preset called "Gilmour" ;D ;D

the french lyrics and a try to translat with google

Nous étions jeunes et larges d'épaules,
Bandits joyeux, insolents et drôles.
On attendait que la mort nous frôle,

Refrain
On the road again, again,
On the road again, again.

We were young and broad-shouldered
Happy, insolent and funny bandits
We waited for death to come close
On the road again, again
On the road again, again

At daybreak we left Ireland
And behind us was lightening the moor
One day we had to be hanged
Refrain
The sea always comes back to shore
In ripe wheats, there are wildflowers
Do not think about it anymore, you're in transit
Refrain
We were young and broad-shouldered
We waited for death to come close
She took us the beautiful and the funny

Friend Do you know that words of love
Travel bad nowadays
You will go even heavier

Bye and Merry Christmas all in the world (if possible?)

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Being a Willie Nelson fan this was  not what I was expecting when I read the Title.

Not at all disappointed though, I'm loving (and therfore borrowing/stealing) the chord progression.
quite tricky for my old fingers to learn new chords, but i'll get there.

Thanks for the lyrics

Merry Christmas to you and your kin.

Cheers

Song unknown to me, but very intersting.

The one by Willie Nelson has been instead the soundtrack of our journey to the West Coast (California, Utah, Arizona, Nevada), last summer...  :)

I don't know the original JP,
But that didn't stop me enjoying this,
like Ronnie, I thought it was The Willie Nelson number.
Really well-done pal...
