Very nice and heart touching!  Thank you for sharing this very personal piece with us Geir - especially in your native tongue - Excellent!

You made me think of my 10 year old son while you sang this and I read your lyrics!  It's great that you can use your talent to touch loved ones so deeply!

I hope that I will be able to follow in your footsteps in this area...

Glad I posted it, tho' it was a bit personal. I really appreciate all your kind comments.  A BIG thank you to all of you. Because it's so personal it's difficult to judge it myself and your comments is extra valuable to me for that reason.

Thanx 0jh0! Do you have the same trad. in Denmark? You're about his age so it would be soon for you to then!
Quote from: Greeny on May 12, 2009, 05:43:59 AMYou play that piano beautifully, and it really works with your voice. This song is simple, direct, and totally wonderful. How did you record the piano? It's very clear. Lovely...
re the recording of this song:
I had planned to record it live ...but ... with 70 guests and a lot of stuff going on it just didn't happen ... So when the party was over most of the tidying and cleaning was done I was alone at the premises and took the time to record the piano  .... It had gone really well the two times I played it during the celebration, but I took no chances and left the vocals for later. Hooked up that cheep Yoga stereo mic placing it on the notestand of the piano, tilting the mic slightly.
The vox was recorded the day after in my car, parked/engine off :) using the built-in mic.
Quote from: Flash Harry on May 12, 2009, 06:21:30 AM......... This is right there with the best of it. Simple arrangement which I love, single instrument which leaves loads of room for the vocals, great singing, understandably involved with the subject of the song which adds it's own nuance and superbly recorded.

It's masterful.
Wow Mike, thank you so much for the kind words!!!!
re arr:
Both recordings was done in one take, leaving in the small glitches as I wanted it to sound as close to the performance on Sunday as possible. The singing style is a consequence of it being a large room and me trying to get as much volume in my voice as possible in that, for me, low key and of course that it's a personal message I'm delivering to my son.

BB, yes the song was very well received  :)

Satch: just go for it!!! I know I've waited too long, should have done the same to my daughters (sorry aca) but at that time I didn't have the confidence to perform that personal stuff.

ok ... that's it ... thanks for listening !!!

Very well done. I can't really say much that hasn't already been said. Excellent song and excellent recording.

P.S. I only just noticed your tag line under your avatar and it gave me a chuckle.
When i used to mix bands this was known as TGS. Typical Guitarist Syndrome..........suffered by most guitarists who want everything so loud they're not even in the FOH mix. :D
Just a roadie again.....

Kody

I was confirmed when I was 14.  It was all part my church~ We had to take classes for a year...we studied the bible... That's how we do it here.  While I'm speaking of that, I might as well mention that I attended Sunday School for 12 years with perfect attendence....LOL!  Confirmation is not for every one here~ You/your parents have a choice...if you belong to a church, etc....

Anyways, this song, Geir, is amazing... I love the piano. I wish I could play like that~ as simple as it is... It has a very perplexed sound and makes this song that much more emotional.  I just finished a year of piano lessons and I can't play anything near this cool...I could go on and on about this song man....Good Job!!

Thanx BAG and Kody really appreciate the kind words!!
Kody: The Norwegian confirmation is pretty much the same as you describe. At least it was when I grew up and it is also the way my son chose to do it. Because the confirmation is such a strong tradition "everyone" did it, but these last 10-20 years a civil alternative has become more common and now appr 1/ choose the civil version.

BAG: I guess I've had my fair share of TGS 8) but not anymore!!! After I sold my Marshall-stack and started using digital amp-sim I can get a great sound without turning the knobs to 11. It also helps having recorded some hours of music on the MBR ........
