In Norwegian tradition the confirmation is when a youngster becomes an adult. Sunday we celebrated my son, and I made him this song that I performed during the celebration.

I have a piano at home that's so outa-tune it's painful to play. The place we rented had a nice grand-piano and this song was written on that friday night, with the lyrics coming together as I had a two-hour drive to get back a lost camera on saturday. I haven't really played piano since I was a kid so this is a white-notes-only performance  :D.

wow awesome Geir.  Yes now you must translate for us.  But love the singing in your native language. Very goose bumpy!:)

I could figure out the title on my own, but after that it's all brand new!! I took a few piano lessons as a kid, but never got much further than "Oats, Peas, Beans" and "Great Gig in the Sky" by Floyd. (The piano teacher liked the latter until I told her it was a Pink Floyd composition -hmmm?)

Also, great vox, too - I'm a Zevon fan, so I couldn't help but notice the similarity - You could cover that guy if you wanted to. And that is a compliment!!  8)

Thumbs up,

Mark

Thank you for the kind words!!!

I must say I'm beginning to understand why there's awards for translators ... It's much easier to write something in English than to translate from something already written in Norwegian ...

"Lille mann" (little man) is what I call my son sometimes, and more lately as he's grown so fast this last year, but still have some inches (and a loooooooot of pounds :)) to go to catch up on his old man ..

This should at least capture most of the meaning of the song tho' some nuances may have been lost in the translation, I may also be a bit tied up in the Norwegian lyrics and thus made some shortcuts to maintain some of the rhythm ...

"Little Man", has now grown up
a playful boy in a grownup body
You will soon go out in the world
Begin the grownup journey

The time ahead is full of choices
You'll decide what you'll do
We've done your choices the best we can
Now it's your turn - "Little Man"

You've got strength and a good heart
you've got skills, you've got charm
you've got friends and family
the future is bright for you "Little Man"

I'm so proud of you, as can be
of who you are , of what you know
you spread joy where you are
you will come far "Little Man"

Nice to hear a nice, honorable piece of norwegian culture! :)

Great job. It's good to get my norwegian refreshed, hadn't talked or listened to it for a long time! Great job! :) And congratulations on your son!
If you loose track over a chord progression, play as fast as you possibly can. Nobody will know. Thats how they invented bebop.

You play that piano beautifully, and it really works with your voice. This song is simple, direct, and totally wonderful. How did you record the piano? It's very clear. Lovely...

Lovely Geir. There's some pretty universally accessible emotionally charged songs coming through this board at the moment, and it's not the usual honey I love you lots sort of drivvel.

This is right there with the best of it. Simple arrangement which I love, single instrument which leaves loads of room for the vocals, great singing, understandably involved with the subject of the song which adds it's own nuance and superbly recorded.

It's masterful.

Simply beautiful,  there must have been not a dry eye in the place when you were finished.  Really, really, really, really lovely.
