Had another living room jam last week.  While doing the Buddy Miles/Molly Hatchett version of Gregg Allman's "Dreams," there were plenty of clams to be had but a few decent moments as well (I particularly enjoyed where we were hinting at during the last two minutes).  Once again, this is the first time this particular group had played together, so it is what it is.

Recorded live through a BR-1600, using direct boxes and an electronic drum set: two guitarists, bassist, drummer, almost too much Guinness.

I had to squash the heck out of the MP3 to a 64 KB/S mono file, so sorry for the loss of fidelity.  I guess we could have played with a tad more brevity to keep the file size down, but...you know...there was Guinness.  By the way, I figured out that the drums sound like they were recorded in a toilet because of all the bleed into the vocal microphone (and re-cutting the vocals seemed weird).

Peace.

The story...

My work life as an assistant principal is pretty busy, so I started to envision jams at my house, cutting out the moving of gear (twice) and travel time.  Over the winter holidays, I started checking gig boards and local web sites in an effort to find like-minded, good-natured people who check their egos at the door, and who like to play music.  Since the goal was not to play out, everybody has tended to focus on the positive instead of yelling at each other for coming in late on the chorus...or whatever.  By the way, I have christened our revolving cast of musicians "The Museum of Oddities."

Finally, I'd like to say I'm very lonely on the BR-1600 board.  Anybody out there?

Cold...so very cold...

Hey I brought beer  :D

That's a cool machine you have!
Your vision of recording sessions is spot-on.
To avoid the bleed-through into the mic's, consider using headphones all around. a bit weird initially....
Hope to hear more of your stuff!

Sounds pretty tight overall.  And the sound is pretty darn good and clear considering.  Nice guitar work.

I know what you mean by lonley, I just got myself the BR-1200 and started posting in that thread (1 song so far, another on the way shortly), and these other threads get much less traffic for sure.  I really love the BR-1200 it is very similiar to the 1600 just less in the way of inputs and simultaneous recording, and 4 less tracks, all other functions are the same, a huge step up from the MicroBR.

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

I don't think the split forums are a good idea (for mp3's that is; for other stuff its good)

Very cool jam Blooby!  Fun to listen too!  Some cool change ups & build ups - you guys were reading each other quite well!  Wow you guys really chill out towards the end - cool!

I would love to do what your doing - live jams at the house - it's great that you found some like-minded muscians to jam, record, & have a few brews with...

Are you one of the guitarists....singer.....basist.....drummer?

Thank you for the kind words on a pretty loose jam night.  To answer Satchwood's question, I am one of the guitarists, and I have no guts to sing.  I tend to be more busy with different chord voicings  (I'm the one soloing at 1:36) than the other guitarist.  If you ever hear the rotary speaker simulator or somebody playing octaves, that would be me as well.

SDC, I actually researched getting a headphone distribution amp, but the jam nights are more about having fun than getting a great sonic result.  Hell, we haven't had the same group of people twice, and there are no plans to play out, so I'm kinda digging the loud-but-not-so-loud-as-to-have-the-neighbors-brandish-pitchforks volume.

Peace.

As I reply to my own thread, I don't see an option for attaching another MP3.  Am I missing something?

Peace.

Blooby

no you're not missing anything; that option is only available in the collaborations forum Looking forward to it!

Nice jam, Blooby!  I am quite impressed with the sound quality overall!  I also think that for the first time playing together, this is a really tight jam.  Imagine how you'd sound after a few years and a few thousand more glasses of Guinness!

Very, very nice guitar work, especially toward the end when it mellows out.  Very melodic.  Are you the one panned slightly left or right?  I also dig the name "Museum of Oddities."  That name can apply to just about any random group of musicians.

Hopefully, you and I will not be the only ones posting in this BR-1600 forum, but even if we are, you are no longer alone.  The coldness dissipates ...
