Here's my tribute to Tom Petty. I don't expect this to be added to any Songcrafters' Tom Petty Tribute page but I just wanted to share it as a tribute and recognition to a great musician and songwriter, Tom Petty. The 3 song medley ( Mary Jane's Last Dance, Learning To Fly and Running Down A Dream) were recorded live by my gig band, The JMZ Band, 10 years ago, before we retired from gigging. Tom Petty influenced many musicians including The JMZ Band with his talent....he will be missed. Because this is about 14 minutes with the three songs, I had to squeeze the quality way down (64 kbps) to fit.  RIP Tom Petty.........

The band line up is as follows:

Dave Mercer - Lead/backing vocals and bass.

Steve Zakel - Lead/backing vocals and guitar.

Farrell Jackson - Lead/backing vocals, harmonica and guitar

Kurt Huhn - drums
recorder
Tascam DP-32
recorder
Fostex VF-160

Hats off to you, fellas. This is very ambitious and requires an incredible amount of talent and focus - both of which you have. Nailed! It sounds so smooth and tight, and, most importantly, like you were enjoying yourselves. The guitar work is exceptional, and I was waiting with anticipation for the solo in Running Down a Dream - wow, it didn't disappoint!

Seriously good stuff. It makes my 'Mary Jane' sound angry and spiky in comparison. And I can't play all the nifty lead parts like you guys.

Excellent.

p.s. I had to go to soundclick as the player didn't work for me. Probably just me though!

Can't play it . At the moment Farrell, on my Kindle Fire, doesn't support soundclick will listen in the mornin g on my laptop.

Super well done band.  Very appropriate homage to Mr. Tom Petty.

Thanks for posting.

I, too, enjoyed listening and thought these songs were performed well. I was wondering at the outset how the transitions would work but you guys nailed them.

Might have been nearly 15 minutes long, but it went in the blink of an eye! Loved every second of this. Brilliant stuff, chaps!

Lovely, really enjoyed listening to this. Oh my, what a super talent we have lost in Tom Petty.

What a great tribute and medley guys, pristine performances one and all, so tight, and those guitars are wonderful.

(Hats off to the drummer for keeping the pace throughout!!)
