So found out yesterday that one of the basingstoke open mike crowd passed away. A lovely fella, John O. Pulled out an old recording I did with him. John was guitar and main vocal, Laura on bodram and vocals, I played the fiddle. Recorded around 2011.

Sorry for the loss of your friend Bruno,
What a brilliant recording,
John had a brilliant voice,
and so good to hear you on the Fiddle.
Thanks for sharing this.

Lovely playing on this Bruno.
The lyrics on this are pretty powerful .
A very dark song indeed unfortunately it's all trus facts and still goes on today in a different format.

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Thanks for all the kind comments. This was a recording of a rehearsal (in fact me learning the song) at John's house - I think it was just a mike in the middle of the room - true songcrafters style. Its a very powerful song, I didn't know it at the time - its a cover of a song by 'Show Of Hands'. I can't say that I know very much about the band - but lyrically very brutal. John just asked me to accompany on the fiddle, I'd done some stuff with him on the open mikes before hand - off the cuff, and a bit seat of the pants  ;D Good memories.

Crikey I remember John O and I'm very sad to hear he's passed.

Good times Mr B!

I'm a serious fan of traditional folk, so this really hits the spot. I love the haunting chords and drone of it, and that fiddle is absolutely amazing - sweet and plaintive at the same time. Do you still play? Just out of interest :-)

Sorry to hear about the passing of your friend. He's incredibly talented, and that's one hell of a band you had going there.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend Bruno but he leaves a fine musical legacy if this song is anything to go by.  Willie
