Synth Workstation/Sequencer

Started by Soccerlogical, August 13, 2017, 12:40:24 PM

Hiya,
I do not want to use a DAW/PC  or a Digital Recorder.

I need  Synth Workstation ($2K max)  with a built-in sequncer/multitrack recorder capable of recording guitar and vocals (via LINE IN) and including those tracks in the final stereo mix.

Does Roland, Yamaha or KORG make a 8-16 track Synth Workstation capable of recording guitar and vocal tracks?

Additionally, Id like play the built in synth tones and recorded samples with my guitar plugged in via LINE IN or with a MIDI pickup.

Most of us multi track with a stand alone machine or a DAW so that leaves you without much luck. There is a member that pops up every now And again, Mike Huntington. He seems quite kmowledgeable about keyboards. You could try to send him a PM as I'm not sure if he'll see this thread or not.
Good luck.

Roland did have the JUNO-Gi. Unfortunately, it's discontinued now. Still, you might get a good bargain on a used one. They were $1199 when it was first introduced, but it looks like used ones are going for $700 - $800 on eBay.

Hi,

I use a lot of keyboards and think you may find your answer in the Yamaha PSR-S970:

It has a multi-track recorder but not a true sequencer.  It is an excellent arranger keyboard that even comes with TC Helicon vocal effects for your vocals.  Also, plug in your guitar and use the keyboards guitar amplifiers and effects.  You can do as this chap is doing and play over your created song or record over to include.

Only other solutions are either very old keyboard workstations or expensive keyboards such as the Yamaha XF that has a fully-integrated midi and audio track sequencer (although not the easiest to work with).

But, I have moved away from keyboard sequencers -- too small to work with.  I record all my audio into my PC from the keyboards I play directly into SONAR Platinum.  Results are terrific and workflow is fast.

I encourage you to check at local music store to verify my comments for yourself.

I know it's now been 3 years since you asked, but I thought I'd revive the thread to say, that the closest to what you're asking for in late 2020 is the brand new Korg Nautilus, which has all the sonic engine power of the Kronos at a lower price, and featuring full onboard audio recording.

Even still, the above has no built in microphone and has no microphone preamps, because Synths are not recording desks.

Really portable recorders are the way to go if you want to record songs without a PC/DAW. Not sure why you didn't want that.   I adore my Boss portable recorder.   If you haven't even tried it, don't knock it!

Another option is an ipad plus a good audio interface.

Now close to 4 years but I just saw this post
I have a Roland FA-07...maybe this would suit...there is a 06 that has 64 keys and an 08 that is 88 weighted  keys like a piano.  Most likely you have solved the issue by now.
