Hi Folks,

I heard this for the first time in the early 1990s when Billy Bragg and Wilco did the Mermaid Avenue albums. They put songs from Woody Guthrie's song journal (where he recorded the lyrics but not the music) to the their own music.

This song was on the second volume. Woody's poetic lyrics and Jeff Tweedy's vocals made me cry. They are filled with romance and yearning. Lost love and remembering.

I hope you like it. I have accidentally done a Jeff Tweedy impersonation but I guess that is my homage to the song.

There is one track of acoustic guitar recorded straight into the BR800 and one track of vocals. I did three vocal takes and comped the best bits together. There are still places where I have butchered the words but I was not in the mood to do lots of takes.

I hope you like it.

magical Ian, i had a compilation cd of Mermaid Avenue back in the day, can't recall which volume or whether it was entire set.

Can't recall any of the songs this one included.

But it's a cracker, great performance and a lot of soul in your vocal.
