Which operating system are you using on your computer, Super 8? It's much easier for people to make recommendations if they know what the target OS is.

Since Flash Harry's not around at the moment, I'll recommend REAPER:  :)

You can download and evaluate a fully-functional copy for 60 days for free. If you decide to continue using it, you're supposed to pay them $60, which is quite reasonable. There are versions for Windows (any version from Windows XP to Windows 10) and Mac (all OS X versions from 10.5 to 10.12). The Windows version will also work in Linux under Wine.

I haven't had much experience with REAPER but I did mess around with it briefly a long time ago and I was quite impressed.

Another great DAW is Ardour:

It's available for Linux, OS X, and Windows. It's open source software and you can get it for free, but only if you download the source code and compile it yourself, which is probably not feasible unless you're a competent programmer. Otherwise, you can download the ready-to-run program for whichever OS you use but you'll have to pay something for it. There's no set price. You can pay whatever you want. They ask you to pay "about the cost of an average restaurant meal for two people in your country".

Oops. I just noticed that you've already said that you're using Windows 7. I should have looked more carefully.

If I was willing to spend money on a DAW, I'd seriously consider Bitwig. It's got some really great features. At $399 US / 379 EUR, it's not cheap but some of the other leading DAWs can cost just as much or more, depending on the version you get.

There's plenty of bells and whistles in the unit do do everything in the box. If not the route you wish to travel, I'd consider Studio One (I think your specs will work). You can upgrade w/o losing data or plugins, and you can kick the tires with their Prime version which is free (https://shop.presonus.com/products/studio-one-prods/Studio-One-Free).

Good luck.
